Getting the parts together for water pump/timing belt replacement - I still need the 'Toyota OEM Seal Packing 1282b 08826-00100' for the water pump, correct?

1282B is correct type for engines that use the SLLC2 (pink) coolant.

Gray silicone also works very well.

I used Right Stuff and let it cure overnight before adding coolant. The Toyota stuff is just too expensive for my taste considering you only need a small amount. I've used Right Stuff for years on my Rovers and never had an issue.

Ive asked a few Toyota dealer service shops and they didnt stock or use the 1282B. They used the 103 black. Just one other reason dealer service doesn't always mean best practice.

Especially for us DIY guys its spendy to buy a tube for a 4” schmear every 100k. But if you have a long term hold, and like to do it by the book, use the 1282B.

I bought the correct sealant for mine BUT since my water inlet snapped off :( .....I didn't have to use the sealant because the new style inlet comes with the seal already in place.
