Copper material for kitchen counter top

Wouldn't copper material be kind of a soft metal and susceptible to dents and damage, or would that be considered part of the patina?

I seen this cool door the other day and it made me think about this thread, must have used muriatic acid in some spots and a laquer to protect it from oxidizing.
