Coolant leak?

Don’t recall where the SBC block drain is but I’d pull that too for the flush.

Did your dad ever use a stop-leak product in the coolant system?

Test 2 complete...no geyser of coolant.

Plan going forward is to try to get that drain plug loose and do the flush. I will still take it for a compression test to be sure though.

Is it possible that because Dad had it sitting for so long putting no more than about a dozen miles per year on it for who knows how long that there was just an incredible amount of gunk to clear out...more than a single flush would fix? 🤞

It only now dawned on me to ask if you have

A automatic transmission conversion as well ?

Or the original toyota manual transmission
Still ?

Good call on the block drain...wouldn't have known to do that as well but a little You Tube education and I think I know where to look for it.

Dad may very well have used some stop-leak product at some point in the last 30-odd years.

yes, if it has sat for a long time without a good balance of coolant/anti boil and distilled water, it can cause the issue you have.

it may take a few tries to get it cleaned out

worst case for draining would be to remove the lower hose.

Well I spent an hour trying to get that drain plug loose using the two-wrench technique to keep from torquing it off and it wouldn't budge. I took it back to the shop and confirmed that yes they did flush it but did so with a vacuum system...didn't take the drain plug out. Which explains why I couldn't move it after it just got a flush. Told 'em I want them to work on getting that thing loose and doing the flush "old school," and to do a compression check as well.

Their most experienced guy is off today so they'll get to it tomorrow...he's the only one I/they let work on it.

Well, that sucks.

(get it?😃)

Literally, though.
