I don't usually cruise through this forum, since I have a FJ40...but I just helped a buddy with a 4runner change plugs and wires.

Putting the plug cap in a magnetic driver extention and lowering it down the plug tubes works GREAT!!

You all probably know this little trick, but not having a 5/8 plug socket to hold the plug all the way down...this really worked slick. Just thought I would post to help others who might be a 4runner noob like me...

Here's your pics...I used an extension for the basic 1/4 inch hex driver bit. Magnetic tip works slick to reach down in to the plug tubes to reach the cap of the plug, and remove. Install allows for lowering in, and because the cap fits just tight enough, you can get a bit of a turn on the plug, and start threading the plug into the hole. Once started, you can remove the magnetic tip from the cap on the plug. I only have a 5/8 deep wall socket and so had to get a little imaginative to remove and replace the plugs. Clearly, if you have the 5/8 plug socket with the rubber to hold the plug, this wouldn't be necessary....

Anyway, on to the pics...

Sorry about the last terrible pic, but demonstrates how the magnet holds the plug for lifting and lowering...

I just use a ~6" piece of stiff rubber hose, I think its 3/8" air hose.

But I think you posted this in the wrong forum, honestly. Neither the venerable 22R or the 3VZ engines use those dreaded tubes for their plugs.
