Convincing my dad the new bumper is worth it

Ok guys. My dad says the brushguard is more than strong enough to stand up to good fender benders. It might be (to him at least) but I want to show him the advantages of getting a front bumper. I have to have this car through college and beyond ( YES! ) so Im goin to need pictures of wrecked ARBs and how they helped and also Im going to need pictures of damage multipliers and how they hurt. Please help me out!! I figured I could get more info here for them rather than chat so I posted it here.

Now for the tech. Roughly how much will a new bumper cause your suspension to sag on a stock LX450?

My tjm did not have noticeable sag on my 94, but IIRC lx springs are softer so it might sag, a 1in spacer (like 20 bucks from pep boys) will even it out. I would cross post in chat. Search also, I think there was a thread about damage multipliers not too long ago.

I put my ARB on my LX when it had stock springs and didn't notice it sag at all. But that damn winch..............
Are you seriously considering the TJM? After reading that the ARB was stronger and knowing someone who has one, I didn't even consider the TJM.

The funny thing is that I installed my buddy's ARB for him after his damage multiplier whacked his fender doing a little mild wheeling:D

Well that most certainly throws up some questions. Ill have to do more research. But the convincing part stays the same.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but here is some advice from the other side after having been a poor college student. Don't spend your money on the TJM. Instead, take it and ask your Dad to match it if you you put it in a Roth IRA (I assume you have worked a little and have some income). Invest the Roth in the total stock market index and forget about it. In 5-7 years, after college, when you are looking to buy your first house and are scrapping up the down, you will have a little more towards it.

X10..My dad bought me some mutual fund when I was in high school...

I blew all my money on toys and now I am having to fight to get the things I really want. Make a future at a younger age and live much better when you are a little older.. toys will come in good time.

This is definitely off topic, but I just noticed your from Memphis too. What part are you from? Usually I'm pretty conscious of other cruisers driving around, but I don't think I've seen you around town. I live in Cordova and drive a white 62.

Good luck with the dad, I'm fighting the same battle as well.

As a dad, and if it's his truck, don't drop any coin on it. If he gives the truck to you, drop your OWN coin on it. If you are still on a stock suspension, take the $$ for a front bumper and get an OME 2.5 heavy suspension instead. After that get sliders. But if you don't own the truck, you should not mod it, and you especially should not wheel it. Only trash your own junk.

At 18 you should be hanging with your GF, not fawking up your dad's Land Cruiser.

One more thing...ARB >> TJM. The ARB is a much better bumper.

Lucky you... I had to drive beat up maxima when I was 18...
I agree with drew... Chase some girls, have some fun, and focus on your education. Believe it or not College GPA matters for your first job or grad school. Good luck...

As a son:
 If it's your Dad's truck and you want it to be your truck than lift it, run it on the trail, trash it, and I'm sure that will help in his decision.

And who says you can't "hang out" with your GF in the LC? All the seats do fold up making things quite nice with lots of room.

Haha I know. But the reason I want this bumper is due to im going to college soon and when my dad fully gives me this rig then I can lift it. He wont let me lift it an inch because he thinks it will immediately flip. I try and tell him these lifts are made to drive better than stock and are made specifically for the weight of the car but he refuses to listen.

Sounds like my dad used to sound, I wasn't allowed to touch anything on my vehicles, no matter what it was. I used to do things anyway, like install CD players and subs, driving lights etc... I knew if I asked to do those things I'd get shot down because he's say "You don't know what you're doing, you'll burn your truck down!". What I think he really meant to say is "I don't know how to do that, so that means you don't either since you're my son!".

Now he asks me for automotive advice and repairs.
