Ok, I have searched high and low and can't find the answer to this.

Will the front bearing cover / figure eight cover from an H42 tranny fit on a H55 from a 3B?

I have an H55 from a 3b that I am converting to fit a 2F and I have already swapped out the input shafts and installed it in my truck only to find that the clutch fork rattles and squeals like crazy because the diameter of the 3B nose piece that the throwout hub rides on is 35mm and the H42 is 38mm. (Thanks to John at RADD Cruisers for the answer to this one!) I now have to pull my tranny and transfer case and solve this problem. Does anyone know if I can just swap the front bearing covers from my H42 onto my H55?

Thanks,

Don

Anyone? Someone must have converted a diesel H55 tranny to work in a 2F. I know I'm not the only looney tune to try this.

Thanks,

Don

The bearing covers will swap over. I faced this same situation when I had a B H55F rebuilt to be used with a 2F. What I noticed was the extra length of the tube on the B bearing retainer as compared to the F/H bearing retainer and that's why I swapped the covers.

Awesome!

Thank you so much, Jim!

I trimmed my length on the 3b housing but I never thought to measure the diameter before I did my install and it obviously came back to bite me.

At least now I know I can fix this without having to chase down an H55 housing and spending even more money.

Thanks again,

Don

From what I understand in the U.S. the h55f for a 2F is alot easier to find then a h55f for a 3B, have you considered selling the 3B h55f and buying a h55f for a 2F?

The tranny is in the truck already and I have an H42 tranny that came out, so I am just going to swap the bearing covers.

Thanks,
Don
