Hey All. Is there a kit out there so I can make my t-case shift like the one in my jeep. Fully Manual, with no electronics. I do not know exactly what model t-case i have, ( would appreciate someone telling me, or pointing me in direction of a page that lists its name )

Another question is what manual trannys can I hook to this t-case and where do I find adapters? Soon will convert to isuzu diesel power ( any write ups out there? ), so I would like to simplify the transfer case as much as possible. It needs new front and real seals as well, it drips fluid badly?

thanks for all your help.

converted my t-case to twin stick, you need new mode shaft, the pin that holds fork to the shaft(will use existing fork)hollow nut, spring and ball for detent machining is there for detent you just need to drill and tap,and then you need the oilseal for shaft(machined already also)very straight forward easy swap, fab up some shift linkage n done you can search here for part # or i will try to post later parts are around $150 good luck peace out

I'm not sure about your split case ( model HF1A ) but sure about all manual toy trannys that you can use .. like H150, H55F etc .. bolt on .. ? mm H55F but you need to change the input shaft I thought ..

In the diesel tech section some write ups on diesel swaps ..

This is my first experience with toyotas. I am a jeep guy at heart, but I really do appreciate all 4x4's. I am not biased towards any one. When it comes down to it, it dosent matter what name it on the out side, what does matter is the quality of the components used. Whit that said, let me say that the FJ62 is a true iron pig. I have never seen a 1980's SUV made that well. There is only 3 things I don't like about it. All the smog equipment under the hood, ( that can be changed ), the auto tranny, and the push button 4wd. I can live with the push button 4wd. I guess I should have asked how it worked before I said I wanted to get rid of it. Could I leave it alone if I put a manual tranny in front of the t-case and a diesel for an engine.

Q: does the t-case need vaccum for shifting?
thanks for the speedy responses. -nate-

Thanks for all the info. I assume that "Yes" was confirming that the t-case does require vaccum. Will any vaccum do? In the conversion, the engine might have a vac. pump on it, or I would install a electric unit. With that satisfy the t-case. Are there any write ups on rebuilding the t-case. That sounds like alot of fun.

any one else got ideas?
Are there other t-cases that have the offset front and rear outputs what are available.

I have had both, I am all for manual, manual windows etc. But honestly I grew to love the push button shift, way easier for getting in and out of 4WD high especially when I lived in the mtns and had to use it almost every day.. I wouldn't bother swapping if it were me. You can look around old Toyotas and find the valve that controls it, the pesky troublesome one, that Toyota charges $200-something for, and find them all over the place used in the junk yards. there is also another part number off a celica or something like that that is drastically cheaper that is the same part... Hope it helps.. andre

I like manual things as well. Just one less thing that can go wrong. My 62 does happan to have power windows and power locks, but they seem to be in good working order.

So if there is a vaccum source I can run some hoses and hook it up and it will work.

Are there any diagrams of this system that are online?
thanks, -nate-

The transfer case needs vaccum to shift into 4H, however it will still go into 4L with or without the push button being activated.

It menas there is a option to engage the 4H manual ..

The model right before the FJ-62 is the FJ-60. It has manual windows, mirrors, transmission, and 4WD transfer. The motor is similar to the FJ-62 but carburated with a longer stroke. Maybe this would be a better fit for you?

If I can get the right seal. (still looking at the moment).. the mod might cost 20 bucks to convert from vac to manual....

You'll need to grab another shifter from a 60 so you will have twin stick. Remove the vac shifter. replace with a seal that looks much like an pinion seal and a 2 by 4inch plate....and run shifter to that.

Ive been so busy I have been able to get out and find the right seal for it.
