We are heading to Moab this year via airplane since none of us have time for the full week-long trip of hauling rigs and gear up there and back. I'm going to be shipping my camping gear to a friend's house and renting bikes instead of wheeling. Have any of you had good/bad experiences with any type of container for shipping gear? The first thing that comes to mind is a plastic/rubber tote with duct tape. My concern is that it won't survive the trip and I will lose gear. The next thing that comes to mind is a big duffle, but it won't protect delicate items. Maybe a rubber tote inside of a corrugated paper box.

Let's hear your ideas/experiences.

I have a large Action Packer (or similar plastic trunk) that I pack gear in. I'm sure it would survive shipping just fine.

We have used ice chests to ship our diving gear all around the world for many years with no problems. They are tough, light, have handles and you have good ice chest to use on site.

I used nylon straps with plastic buckles around the exterior and some have holes for a lock.

Just another idea for you.

Have a good trip and enjoy Moab.

If your budget allows for it, you can't go wrong with a large Pelican case. You can get one with a built in handle and wheels. The downside is weight and cost.

I use this for camping and find it to be very useful and tough. I think it's a good possibility for your needs while not breaking the bank.

The Container Store > Watertight Trunk

The thing is practically water tight due to the rim gasket.

Duffel sacks inside an Action Packer. Use straps to hold the action packer closed.
