Congrats, keep us posted on how the audio install goes! If it works out I may follow in your steps.

Okay - just got her back from my stereo guy. The center dash speaker completely blown as was the back woofer - it was cracked and someone tried to glue it LOFL and finally just cut the wires. He disconnected the two front center mids and dash center speaker as he deemed them as worthless.

He installed a JL 4 channel amp and 6x9 Infinity Kappa fronts and Kappa back seat 6.5 and a 6" woofer in the cargo bay. The result greatly exceeded my expectations. My guy is George @ Mobile Electronics 10100 Clay Road in Houston 713-460-2555 - He does business with Javier whom many folks in Houston know well.

George also installed HID low beam and fog light kits which greatly improved the lights.

Interestingly he confirmed that the ML is pure garbage.

I remember the ML winning sound awards in a magazine a long time ago. Speakers just are not a lifetime item, even in the home. The wear out. That's normal.

I completely disagree, it is not normal. I have the original stock sound system in my 2000 LC. It sounds great, 16 years and 200k later.

Well, it's is normal for things to eventually wear out. When is the question. Nothing last forever. My 2004 Non-ML system still sounds fine. It does sound like the ML wears out faster then the other options.

For you ML guys, sounds like you can swap the amp to a normal car 4 ohm amp and run typical car speakers. Nice option to do if you have a bunch of shot speakers.

I plan to put an android double din or pioneer app radio in the gx sometime soon and I will post up the install and result. Im pretty sure there was another thread in this section where this was done.
look forward to seeing it. Cheers!

I bought an 06 with KDSS and ML... I would have rather went base stereo so I could easily swap the navigation or 07+ as at least there are updates for it, but I really wanted the KDSS, and a clean truck, and something had to give.

Well, I am happy to say I just bought a very well kept 07 White, Non-KDSS, ML, w/ RES. The previous owner/s did everything required at Lexus. Recent ones were new battery/alt, new front Shocks (almost $800 :(), TB/WB all done. She only has 128k on it, and I have already had a few people ask if it was a brand new truck.

So far I like it a lot. I am coming from a 2002 Honda CRV w/ 190k, and the 2 hr ride home from picking this up sold me right away on Lexus. Man, this thing is solid, quiet, and a very different feel than the CRV. It does feel a little top heavy when going over changes in the road which get the truck moving laterally (rocking back and forth), and I am guessing that is where the KDSS would shine, as well as cornering.

what did you pay for it?

what did you pay for it?

I traded in my wife, her mother, and my collection of baseball cards. Which is roughly equivalent to $14.5k. KBB in my area is close to $19k.
