I smell Mons Venus!
Hi all,

My friend's looking at a base 95 Toyota PU with a 22re engine, which I assume was built in the first half of 95.

Is the 2.7 L engine the only other 4 cyc, and used in all 95.5+?

Are these 22re-equipped 95s Tacoma bodies, or are they the old body style?

Thanks for shedding some light .

Did the older style have a third brake light over the rear windshield? My 92 doesn't, and I thought the 92 was among the last body styles for the 22re.

'95 is a "crossover year". Early 95's are the older body style:

This was the last model that got the venerable 22RE engine. It was too difficult to make this engine ODB-II complient for the requirement starting in '96, so it was dropped. '04+ trucks got the third brake light on top of the cab in all states, CA got it a year earlier I think.

Then in late '95 they introduced the Tacoma, totally different body style, drivetrain, etc:

I really don't think you COULD put a 22RE in a Tacoma, the exhaust is on the wrong side, it would intefere with the gas tank.

I thought 94 was the last year for the trucks

and 95 the 4Runner :confused::confused::confused:

IIRC, the 3rd brake light came on board in '94 on the mini.

95 truck=22re 2.4l 4cylinder or 3vz 3.0lv6
95.5 and up taco=2rz 2.4l 4cylinder , 3rz 2.7l 4cylinder, or 5vz 3.4lv6

The 3r and 2r engine to my knowledge have an identical block to the later 22re but a much different head with the intake and exhaust switching sides and went to distributorless ignition. You will not find a Taco with a 22re unless someone went to a great deal of work to put less horsepower under the hood. I believe that T100's had the 5vz for a few years before the Tacomas came out, and maybe even the 3rz, but that I'm not sure on.

That is correct the T-100 2wd's even had a distributor ask me how I put a Taco 3Rz into a T-100 3Rz?

I didn't ;)

But I still have NEVER seen a 95 old body style truck

I see 95 4runners everyday though.
