The Coleman free standing single burner stove friggin ROCKS!!
Boiled the full pot of water in just under 6 min.
This freed up SOOOOO MUCH SPACE in the gear area that I might be able to get away without the foot locker in the back!! SUPER STOKED!!!

Nice that it works well. The thing I don't care for in this style stove is the height of your pot while cooking. Just makes me nervous. Even my Svea 123R is a little off putting especially with it's small footprint. Just me though.
Nothing like being stoked about your stove. :D

So use your mad skillz and build a box that would hold it better-lower, wider and more stable. I was thinking a square box a bit bigger than the burner, and a propane line rather than a bottle under the burner. Then the bottle could sit beside it and not make it so tall.

I have one of those I gave up on because it is too tall and tippy with much on it. It is great for boiling small amounts of water. but that's it.

A Coleman white gas exponent or sportster stove might do the trick for you too. The small tank of white gas will easily last a weekend.

Ha, I have one of those and used it last month on the con with a tall bottle and no base:eek:. Worked fine without tipping over however, Rusty Dan suggested nicely that I put it on the seat of the picinic table and not the top:eek:. Can't beat the price and the space savings!:hillbilly:

I have one of these and it does a good job heating stuff up... but it's also easy to topple. Last time I used mine I lost half a large pot of chili on the ground when it all fell over. :whoops: Next time, I think I'll heat up my chili in batches using a small pot. Then at least I won't loose so much if it falls over.

We keep one similar to that in our picnic stuff. Great for heating water for hot drinks or boiling a few hot dogs for lunch. I've never had a problem with it tipping over. :meh:

Well, for fordice, I'm gonna try a different cooking method as well cuz it's just ME and not the wife and I.
So I plan to pre make my meals and heat em up on the stove.
Breakfast will be a protien shake and cereal and sammiches for lunches.
Of course coffee in the AM. :bounce:
Got some of those nalgene bladders for drinking water.
If I could get that foot locker outta the back that would really help my OCD!! :)

Get a Jetboil and forget the rest! Faster at boiling water and super compact.

And you can get "legs" for the base as well as larger gas cylinders. We use our Jetboil every day we camp.

I carry and use the Jetboil for boiling water and it works great. However it lacks a bit as a cooking stove. I have their larger pans and they work OK but are hideously overpriced especially for vehicle based camping where a little less efficiency is tolerable (namely conventional pans you can buy anywhere that can save you serious coin).

IMO this style of single burner stove is a relatively small/compact, easy to use, cheap to fuel (about $2 per fuel can if bought in bulk), easy on fuel, very stable, decent wind protection, etc. stove for camping or even using on the patio: http://www.amazon.com/Iwatani-Casse...&qid=1341941378&sr=8-2&keywords=iwatani+stove

They're available from different manufacturers, with different BTU output models and some even come with plastic cases for transport.

From about $25...at Amazon.com, Sportsman's Warehouse here in Reno, etc.

Just another option to consider.

It's hard to beat Coleman's history. We still use the old green two burner Dad bought as a Sparks High freshman in '55.
We also have the propane single burner above, it is dangerous especially around children, use with caution. I've experienced several leaky little propane bottles too. Usually after use and somehow a piece of grit sticks the valve open and night number two is w/o hot food.

I've used the below Coleman single burner dual fuel for years car camping. It's perfect for a can of beans. Safer, imho.
A recurring problem with my Petrol/gas Coleman camping stove

I use the Jetboil system quite a bit too, broken a few Whisperlites as well.

Just picked this single burner Coleman up in Wallyworld for $27 as a backup to the jetboil for horse camping. It fits in my sunglass case! It's better fuel for altitude as well.

Kind of makes up for the dutch ovens I'll lug around sometimes.:bang:
