we all know that on the SBC swaps you have to use either a pricey AA custom short throw clutch or a standard GM short throw clutch (i used one off of a 1966 Checker Marathon I6)
For a Ford swap, what clutch kit are you guys using? I know i'll need an 11" clutch kit that has a 10 spine clutch disk but what model fords have a short throw pressure plate?
I can fit a chevy bellhousing on my ford transmission if needed by redrilling the mounting holes on my transmission and/or bellhousing and then either machining down the bearing retainer OR boring out the bearing retainer hole in the chevy bell housing.
I'm just wanting so see what my options are here.
Drive train will be a 4bd2t/Ford RTS TOD 4 speed transmission/Land cruiser 3 speed case
The Ford 300 has about 300 ft lbs of torque. It was also found behind the 302 and 351in both 2wd and 4wd. It was offered as an option in both the f150 and f250. The rts can only be found in about 3 years. @85-87. It could also be found in the full size bronco behind the 6 cylinder or the 302 or even 351
Hot rodders also like this transmission.
This is the heaviest built 4 speed overdrive manual transmission Ford ever offered. Gearing is near identical to that of an h42 missing 2nd gear. Oh...plus overdrive.
Someone on 4bt is running one behind a 4bt.
Many who complained of their big jumps between 3-4 gears also had 2.xx gears and 30+ inch tires.
I would think this transmission would take more than what the 3 speed case could handle.
Best part is it usually costs a fraction of what an nv4500 costs
