Was driving the 42 the other day and all of a sudden no clutch, pedal to the floor. I thought i blew a line or a seal and when i checked it out there was no leaks and res was full. I pumped the pedal 20-30 times with my hand and the pedal came right back up and drove home fine. Go to use it next day and pedal to floor again, pump it up and it's fine. What do you say guys, master or slave or both and has anyone rekitted these with any success. Last time i had a similar problem with the 40 i bought a master and slave from Lordco and it lasted a week ,got another one and it lasted about 6 months. Bought new from Mr T and it has lasted about 8 years and counting.

I think Lordco has gotten better with their suppliers. It seems that the aftermarket parts they carry have improved. I remember Ken going through a bunch of Fenco clutch masters. Beck Arnely seem to be higher quality. Still probably not OEM quality. I have a Beck Arnely brake master and its been good so far (2yrs.) Doubt it'll last the 23 plus years the Toyota one did though.

I agree with Jay.... replace both.

I read somewhere that if you get black grunge in master or fluid down inside of firewall the master is hooped. I don't have those conditions but i took it out tonight and all the pumping in the world couldn't get pedal to come up so tomorrow i will order some parts.

Mine buggered up on me in mootard, naturally it happened at a light as I was pulling up behind a rather expensive looking boat on a trailer.

A bit off putting when you can't disengage the clutch or get the truck out of gear as you roll towards a gleaming fiberglass transom...

I opted for master first, turned out it was the slave.

Reason for getting master first was that you can order them anywhere but only Toyota and Radd have the slaves. ( lordco only carries old fj40 slaves, last I checked. )

And yeah, you usually see it on the firewall (inside or out), the fluid f's up the paint.

Mine didn't leak at all, just stopped working.

It's not my daily driver so i will go slave first because i am too cheap to buy both. While under there to check slave spring i noticed that the push rod from slave to fork is starting to wear through the cup on the fork. While the slave is off i will weld that up to reinforce it. Has anyone done that before and any hints for doing the job?

I did. It had poked right through....I just put a gob of weld in there to fill hole. Drill works pretty well to clean it out.

Just don't put too much weld in...it'd be a bitch to drill out afterwards if there wasn't room for the pushrod .

There is just a little crack on the back side so i think i will weld the back only to stop the rod from coming through. Your right about the slave, the new style is not available from Lordco only gas models so it is coming from Mr. T at 3 times the price.

Replace both vern when in dought, also check linkage, just in case.

Always, just like headlights both always...

They suck, nothing diesel..

Make sure you have the spring on there . The pressure sometimes compounds and pushes the piston out too far and fluid gets by . that might be what happened .

Yep, the clutch adjustment can be poo, Mark and me were light wheeling one day :meh: and the slave pushed fluid by the seals... And as mentioned the fork has been known to be worn deep or through ...

I had the hydraulic shop make me a SS braided flex line because T didn't have one in stock... $18 and 20 years later it works & looks like new.

Most of you know the one... Across and down the street from where the Pantry was... The name eludes me.

I think princess auto makes lines now too? I don't know if they make that small is the only thing?

I'd not trust the guys at princess auto to make me a line... Just swaying.

Coast Industrial is the name of the place that makes lines of any kind at a fair price.
I ended up getting a Toyota slave and a Beck Arnley master and will install tomorrow.

That's the place... And they really know their stuff. They made a friend aka custom line for his sunfire... Better than new, and more than $100 less.
