Just bought an 85 Toyota P/U for my son and we are experiencing clutch problems. My son replaced the clutch master cylinder as well as the slave, we have bleed it several times and checked the pedal adjustment. It doesnt allow you to shift into any gear from neutral while the motor is running. You can put it in gear while the motor isnt running and get the rpms high enough it will drive off in 2nd and drive just fine. Any advice for this single mom trying to help her kid? I say replace the clutch and be done with it but others say if it was the clutch it wouldnt drive at all.

So once you get it moving it shifts fine? Can you explain how you bled the system, so we can make sure you are doign it right... If there is still air in the lines, that could be your only problem. And welcome to Mud! (I'll spare you the salute :D) And might I say that you sounds like a pretty cool mom! :D I got a mini van when I turned 16..... then 4 months later I got an engine to put in it..... Hehehe

Hi Jerod,
Now I am told by the guys that it doesn't shift fine it only drives in whatever gear your in. We bleed it 3 times, the 1st time my son did it when he replaced the master and slave cylinder, he drove it home and then when he went to drive it, the P/U made a popping sound and thats when the problems started. It has been bleed two more times. It was bleed just like you would your brakes, by pumping a few times and releasing the valve. would the problem be the forks and ulimately needing a new clutch?
