Cool, just did this a few months ago...along with an H55. I bolted the new tranny mount to the plywood then bolted the plywood to be jack...made everything so much easier!! View attachment 1152063

Have fun!
Dooner1, did you get your h55 in the Bay Area/SC? I'm saving up for this next.

Hey, I went through "beno" (Onur) here on Mud. Great guy...knows what he's doing and was able to source everything I needed including all of the clutch components and misc items. Great prices as well! I'll be glad to answer any questions about the install...no problem. -D

Thanks Doner1, I have many questions... I have a late model (Sept 85) 60. I've read that it bolts right up to my 2f with no mods. Any truth in that that you're aware of? I also put a clutch in within the last 10k. Can I use that or is that just a bad Idea to use that again. I too bought the SOR HD version and have had no issues whats so ever. Pulls tuff with my 33's.

I need to prioritize my mods/work. I really want to get out of my long 8" shackle suspension first. Then find the H55.

I believe the cutoff date is may 1985 for the direct swap...just check to see if you have the big spacer bolted to the back of the tranny. Then you just have to plug the extra bolt hole in the front of the t-case half and install the 5th gear oiler cup...easy. You should be fine with the clutch you have...unless it shows abnormal wear. The T-case should be rebuilt while you have it out as well...it has to be disassembled anyway. You should start a new thread and/or PM me...since this thread is for a clutch install.

I'm going to hopefully finish the clutch install tomorrow. I ordered a few more items.
-oil pan gasket because I replaced the rear main & did it the long way.
-clutch fork pins (were either missing or fell out & lost them when torn down)
-alignment bolts. Made some dowels by ordering M12x1.25x110mm long bolts & cut heads off. Mcmaster-Carr, pack of 5 shipped for $18

I always tell myself that I'm gonna use studs, but then I end up having to rush and get the job done. It would make the stabbing a lot easier. My FJ60 was the hardest transmission I've done, due to both the weight and lack of balance.

Got the trans in, bolts worked well but has to screw them in a bit because the top flange of the shifter kept hitting the floor. Installed clutch fork pins & new boot. Taking a break for lunch so will hopefully finish up.

Well clutch & trans is in. Only small hiccup was stupid +12v on starter, stud is messed up & wont tighten up. Going to get new starter tomorrow. Otherwise made some welded supports for my cross member cut to add clearance for front driveshaft.
