Always driven an auto so im not sure about manuals, im looking at a 55 that the guy says needs a clutch fork, is this expensive and how much to replace? thanks

The clutch fork is cheap, replacing it, depends on access. It may require pulling the tranny and transfer case to access it properly though the F/2F have access under the bellhousing.

Is it a three speed or four speed? If it's a 3 speed you can have the one I probably have laying about here for the cost of shipping.

I would be certain that is what it needs. don't just go by what the owner says. could be something simple, like an adjustment, master and slave replacement or could be a complete clutch replacement. If you have to pull the trans out, have a very good look at everything else in there. DO IT ONCE!

im looking into a 55, I am always broke but trying to get a project to work on when I get back from my deployment and the guy says it is a clutch fork, so if it is I would like to try to fix it there and drive it to my house.

Its 500 and I am going to try and get it if thats it, Ill have to look at it in person but I will get the engine and tran info and you guys will be able to let me know how hard to do it possibly. I dont want to pay to have it towed so I want to get it running, if I do this I am hoping to snag a washington guy to go with me possibly that knows his cruisers to help me get it going. Ill buy them beer, want a project before I deploy so I have something to plan while I am there. And I am a Toyota lover and I am digging the 55.

Sure, it COULD be a clutch fork...could be the throw-out bearing has just slipped off the fork, maybe you just need new clips for that. PIA but doable without pulling the tranny.
There are two different clutch forks, depending on year and 3-speed vs. 4-speed. They take different TO bearings and clips...could be the PO tried to mix & match?
You can drive without a clutch. All Pigowners should know how to do that anyway.
If you spring for airfare AND beer, Pighead will come and get that Pig moving. But, be warned, Pighead can drink a LOT of beer.
