My clutch disengages and engages in the top 1" of pedal depression. Is there a way to move the engagement/disengagement lower into the pedal depression?

I'm not sure if it's the proper way, but I adjusted the slave cylinder rod to have a bit more free play before it engages.
Since making this change, I've wondered if proper adjustment should have any pressure on the throw-out bearing or not when the pedal is at rest?

This has been talked about a bunch. The pedal and hydraulics are pretty much set, the mechanical adjustment on the clutch fork can help.
I have a similar issue, but was able to improve the feel a bit through a combination of reducing the pedal height and adjusting the slave rod. See article below which includes some good advice from FJforty.
