One strange thing though is that there is power to the lighter and the dome light even when the key is not in the ignition.

I up this thread because I'm wondering the same question. The answer seems yes from what is said here but that definitely unusual.

Seems normal to always have power to the dome light and inspection light but I was surprised to see the cigarette lighter always on.

Was very happy to have a functioning cigarette lighter for the first time in decades so I bought a nice socket with usb plugs and voltage reading.... That may not be a good idea if it draws constantly on the battery.

I'd like to know what this is, ... sure could use a cellphone charger over a "butt" lighter!

Mine is the same way. Glad it's not just me.

I had the common cigarette lighter problem and learned that the dome light, cigarette lighter and 12v socket in the glove box are on the same fuse and always hot. Easy fix once you get the cigarette lighter out of the dash.

The object feels high quality with its all metal construction and good finish, no sharp edge, no seem... I find it integrates well inth e 40 dashboard, I'm quite satisfied with it (but would be perfect if green).
Otherwise work as expected, charge 2 devices up to 2A. When nothing connected it displays the voltage, when a device is connected it cycles between the voltage and the amp provided to the device.

Over 24h it does not draw anything significant from the battery. Haven't had the opportunity to test for longer time but obviously when planning to not use the 40 for more than a few days unplugging it will be necessary...
