LC quality, fit and finish is absolutely so much superior to the tundra. It's hard to describe but it's definitely a thing. I wouldn't even think about the mileage if the LC has good service history. Tundra interior would be junk by 100k based on my observations and extremely un-scientific study. Trust us on this one man, get the LC

Canyon, Good lookin Tundra. I feel the same way while test driving the LC and Tundra. I like the Tundra but the Cruiser just feels right. Today been working a deal on a 2013 with very low miles. We are about 3K away from each other right now. It has had one previous small accident and bouncing between Toyota dealers for the last 8mo, been at this one 4months. They are at full book retail and I don't think a car with an accident HX and Toyota will not certify it, warrants full book. Also they are pricing my truck at rough trade for a 2003 extra cab 4wd tacoma. Mine is certainly not new, but far from rough. Hopeful this one works out.

Why buy an accident truck ?

Depends on what the "accident" actually was, AND price, right? But if they are trying to have their cake and eat it to, which it sounds like they are from the previous post, best bet to walk out of that negotiation.

We almost bought a new LX350 for the wife, the tailgate had been repaired after minor damage, thousands off sticker (just missed it).

Ryan, In my area I need to go out 300 miles just to find 10 used ones to look at. The low mileage 2013 looks good in pictures and shut lines appear correct but History is history. I don't understand why Toyota won't certify the vehicle. However I can buy the Toyota platinum warranty because it is inside its 3yrs/36K B2B warranty. I offered around 53K for it. If it was at my local Toyota dealer, this would be worked out by now.

I don't see how I would buy a LC at "full book retail" that had also been in an accident.

If he was getting a SERIOUS discount it would make sense. But his previous post indicates, he isn't.

I would walk.

Toyota won't certify the vehicle
They want FULL retail
It has been in an accident

To me, I would walk away.

But hey it is your money :)

Ryan, feel the same way. I'm ok with previous damage that has been repaired properly. Car fax states that the damage was functional, which mean it could be driven after. I feel I'm reasonable with my offer, and with the end of year coming maybe they will see the error of their ways. If not the search continues.....

I wouldn't buy one that has been in an accident without a SERIOUS discount. You're on the LC forum, so I think you know the answer youll get mostly. My statement would gravitate more toward value. A Tundra is a nice truck but its new and going to depreciate. The LC has already taken quite a bit of that. Still going to depreciate, but I hate buying new vehicles because of that. I would echo what others have said about the west coast. I wouldn't buy something with rust for the money. I would travel to find what I want. A plane ticket is cheap! . I bought my 2008 with 155k! It drove as well as some I looked at with 50k. I don't own a LC with less than 145k and believe in them. I also have had tacomas in the mid 200ks. I don't trust any other brand with mileage like that. Mr. Toy has it together when it comes to the LC and trucks. You cant really go wrong, but you are getting a much more refined vehicle by buying a 200. My opinion only of course, but I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money on a 200 with miles if it has been taken care of. There is always a risk, but that's life.

First, keep the taco. Since rust is prevalent where you live, make it the winter vehicle. Spending 40-50k on a vehicle that will see salt and consequently rust doesn't compute for me. Unless you just have money to burn :) Yes these are not investments but taking care of your vehicle is critical, and cruiser heads know that rust is the #1 concern when purchasing. Since you keep things a long time, I think you will run into a parts issue down the line if you have to start replacing body panels due to rust. 100 series owners are starting to see this.

Second, sounds like you should walk. Minor accidents don't matter that much but it's hard to say what was done. Replacing bumper caps is no big deal IMO, more than that and I'd walk. Take a trip to the west coast or Texas and buy a rust free one. Drive it back or ship it. There is a very nice white one on CL here in Austin. Also, I'd try to find an older lower mileage unit, or up the budget to get a newer lower mileage cruiser.

I had 2014 tundra for year traded in on my 2014 200 haven't looked back. Tundra was a great truck just didn't have enough seats

For reference I picked up a 2013 with 127k last month for $34k at a Toyota dealership. Mileage doesn't really matter me and to save $20k was worthwhile in my opinion because new or used I will put 100k on it and trade it. Might as well be the 2nd 100k when your talking about a vehicle with MSRP above $80k

You bought 2013 LC200 for $34k?

Yes sir and they made good on my trade too ;) Blizzard over Tan. Was due for waterpump and tires. (most seemed to need waterpump and I always put new rubber on my trucks) Did the waterpump in about 3 hours with an oil change. Shopping for tires currently. Interior in excellent shape other than one small tear in back seat from a sharp object during transport. I was considering just flipping it to ebay for a profit but the wife and I both love it and really I could go for 1 more :)

To bring a little relevance to the OP's thread I was in the EXACT pickle you are but was looking at older rigs. I initially was going to buy either an 08-09 cruiser or '12-13 Crewmax Tundra (where you could still recline second row) both were low 30's in my neck of the woods. I was stuck on a black tundra with redrock interior or white cruiser with tan. When I saw my new truck up for 34k fresh off trade at a local dealer I knew that the decision had been made for me.

Both the Tundra and Cruiser are great vehicles with many similarities and 2 different functions. I didn't need a pickup but liked the idea of having one again as its been about 6 years since I sold my Powerstroke. Fact is if I'm spending that much $ I want to be able to overland it later when my 80 series dies. The Cruiser will make a much better offroad platform at that time than the Tundra.

Jk, I thought about going to buying your LC when it popped up on auto trader. People at the dealer seamed nice and I'm glad it went to a good home. Went to buy the 2013 today just after leaving the house I got a text from the sales guy saying it had sold yesterday. O well. Glad I'm not in a hurry and My Taco just keeps going! Contacted I guy with a 2010 down south that popped on cars.com this morning after getting home. I would like a 2013+ but a older one I can pay cash for under a ext Toyota warranty my be a good deal . Around here I want a newer one because of rust and the newer features, but a southern 2009-2011 maybe OK. I'm sure they all drive similar.

I'm sure they all drive similar.

While my low mile 09 was in the shop this past summer due to dealer incompetence, I had the opportunity to drive the GM's 2015 model for a short while. Other than minor cosmetic differences, and some other additional features, it drove exactly the same.

Actually this point was completely lost on the dealer, specifically the GM. He was incredulous that I said there was no real difference between my 09 and his 15. He kept saying "but it's a new 2015", he just wouldn't accept it. A well cared for and maintained LC will age well and hold it's value.
