My 2013 LX brakes fine and everything is 100% functional. Having said that, I had to brake harder than usual today when someone suddenly decided this was their turn, and for a split second the dash dinged and a “check 4wd” message appeared. It was up for less than a second and then disappeared as quickly as it appeared. So quickly, that there may even have been more to the message, but I couldn’t read it fast enough. I tested it and it did it again under medium/hard braking. There’s no check engine light or anything. Has anyone seen this? Anything I should worry about or just keep on going?

Yes, I have three stored codes but they are all related to the evap system and have been there for about two years.

This sounds like the collision avoidance capability in the Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Totally normal.

Pretty sure I don’t have radar cruise control. How would I check on that?

Check behind your grill and look for a black box directly behind the L logo with screws on the sides of it to adjust the mounting angle precisely.

Alternately, my LC with radar cruise has a button on the right side of the wheel to adjust following distance for the radar cruise. I'd assume an LX without the feature wouldn't have that button.

No radar cruise. Any other ideas?

Only thing I would be concerned about is the actuator going bad in your transfer case. Known to go out over time and with it being a 2013, it could happen in the future. You will know when it does as VSC light and 4WD light will come on at start up and stay on. Reset and they will go off. Then come back etc.
