I have an opportunity to pick up a Warn X9000 for $100. The catch is it was bumper mounted and the truck ran into a tree. The winch motor hit the tree and separated from the side of the winch. Two of the 4 motor mounting holes in the side plate are stripped. The armature of the motor is bent. There doesn't appear to be any other damage. It still freespools easily.

At $100 it seems worth the risk to buy, helicoil the motor mounting holes, replace the motor and potentially have a decent winch. Too risky for future catastrophic failure?

I would pass, and I am cheap.
All stuff inside is bend and might give you a huge headache to repair and get it running normally without strange noise and wear.
But the mounts from motor to winch is easy to replace, the inside (hex drive shaft) might be replaced?

The motor is a chunk of steel but I don't know if it can win from a tree impact?
