Been lurking here long enough. Time to start a build thread. To give background on where and how I got here I will keep it brief. Had an FJ55 when I was 16. Short lived as it was a rusty beast that spent many miles traveling between San Diego and Mexico on missionary trips. Sold and moved on. Have always had a kindred spirit for these old trucks and about 9 years ago bought and built an FJ60. Sold that to put a down payment on a house. There's a build thread link in my signature. Brother caught me off guard about 2 years ago with a request to build another 60. Done and residing happily in California. Mostly resto on that as I am totally burnt out on the modification of things to get them to work. Fast forward to today. Another challenge by my brother but this time a 40.
Boom. Done. Well almost. Dang these have gotten crazy expensive. So the search was on and the planning began. Mild restoration, disc brakes, clean wiring, nice paint and body. Took a bit but a craigslist search turned up a 1969 about 15 mins from me for $2500. I looked it over and it had lots of issues but damn it was beautiful. Low balled him at $1500 and he countered that he had someone that offered $1600. I said I could match and be back in the morning to pick it up.
