I’ve looked here… unless I’m completely blind. It’s not there. Any pictures would be helpful. As stated in an earlier post, charged lamp relay is under the passenger side plastic kick panel, by your feet. It will be easy to spot as it says charge lamp relay on it.
This is great info for when I find it. Thank you. I’ve read multiple posts about it being in the passenger side kick plate, but there’s just a cooling fan and one other thing that isn’t this relay. Can you give me a better idea of where I can find this?Correct, but it will say charge lamp relay on the relay itself.
There are two clips, one on each side. And pull the top off the assembly. Clean it with some good Deoxit or equivalent cleaner. Home Depot sells it.

Update: I used the cleaner, while I don’t think the relay was working perfectly, I have tested it to the FSM specs and it seems to be working just fine now after a cleaning. This didn’t solve my issue, like I hoped it would.
I have 12v power when key is in turned on to the alternator exciter wire. Alternator is a mean-green ( I have confirmed this alternator works), when the 12v power is plugged into the alternator and the vehicle is running the exciter wire is only putting out 2.9v. You need 12V to excite the alternator. What else could be an issue. I have a brand new fusible link system in the vehicle, I have confirmed that is working correctly. I saw another post on YouTube that said he fixed it with the ignition relay. Any help is appreciated. 1984 FJ60 2F.
It’s a high output alternator. Yes, it’s internally regulated. What is a mean-green alternator? Is your alternator internally regulated?

Thanks for this info. The alternator that was in the vehicle when I bought it was not the original. however, it was running the traditional Green plug that is a 2 wire plug. The plug you show above is a 3 wire. Is my '84 supposed to have 3 wires?Given its probably not the original alternator then, and it is probable that the vehicle was originally externally regulated its anybody's guess what wiring changes were made when the vehicle was converted.
I would just provide a freshly wired source of switched 12V+ to the alternator IG Terminal (a good source could be found with a test light in your original 8 pin regulator plug).. and ensure the S (Sense) wire has good low resistance connectivity to your Batt+ terminal.Given your vacuum pump is on the back of the alternator you'll get a BRAKE light if it stops turning.. you could go deeper and try and get your charge light working properly if you wanted.

It was on the exact opposite side on the drivers side. I'll post a picture later when I'm back home.I'm *almost* sure that the Charge Lamp Relay was under the passenger kick panel for 81-87, but I haven't dealt with too many pre- '85 FJ60s so it's possible it was where it supposed to be, but the parts catalog does show it on the passenger side for those years.
In the pic you posted, it would go on top of the Cooling fan timer relay, and use the same bolt, but I don't even see the connector, so who knows.
The Mean Green is a 200A alternator.
Can you post a pic of the location you found the Charge Lamp relay, for information's sake, please![]()
I'm assuming that because I get 12V to the plug when the key is in on position, then when it's in the run position, it drops to 2.4 or somewhere near there, then it's the ignition switch not actuating since I've ruled out the rest.
