I know hardly anything about CB's but I know I want to get one to put in my 80. I have a double din navigation in my 80 so putting it in the dash is out of the question. I found this https://www.cobra.com/detail/75-wx-...-radio-with-soundtracker-and-noaa-weather.cfm -and wanted to know what people thought of it?

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have one in my FJC, and it works well enough for my purposes (never used unless I am going on a group trail run where the majority of others don't have 2M ham radios). It is easy to remove the all-in-one unit when not in use. It does have some flaws; primary among them (to me) is the poor audio quality of the miniscule speaker in the handset. I got over this by wiring the auxiliary audio output into my stereo, so now all the sound comes through the stereo and all the stereo speakers.

But if you want a permanent installation so you can talk to all your good buddies in the big rigs all the time, then you'd be better off with a more conventional radio.

Thanks, I think I will probably get something different. I live along I-80 here in Nebraska and have a lot of semi traffic so it is nice to be able to listen to them when I am on the road. especially if bad weather is coming.

I have one and it works well on the trail and takes up minimal dash real estate. However... making changes to the unit is not where as easy as reaching up to a dash-mount unit. If there were space in the 100 for a nice dash unit with real knobs I would have gone that way.

Cheap and easy, and you have the real-estate...get a Uniden XL510 or 520 and install into the ashtray.

All said under $100 for the radio, antenna, mount and coax. Maybe took an hour or two to get everything into the truck.

I think that Christo gets the credit for this one, or at least has a good write-up on his site.

Others have mounted the 510/520 to their console. This is ToolsRUs' setup.

It all comes down to how integraded you want the radio to be in your rig.

x2 on that I use a cheap 40 ch CB from radio shack, it gets mounted with 3M command strip Velcro on the rare occasions I need a CB in the 100.

If you want to listen to the truckers you need a CB that will scan, CH 19 is filled with asshat, potty mouthed punks. You need to scan to find semi normal people on the CB channels.

I have the unit in question in my 80. It works well for my useage and takes up zero space. I have the power/antenna mount under the very front of the center console and the unit lives on the side of the center console. Easy to reach, easy to hear, and I picked it up on Amazon for $80 something.

It replaced an old large Cobra unit. Most every CB has pretty crappy sound when compared to 2M ham. No complaints and easy, clean install.
