My vet covers all her animals with pet health insurance - I know it sounds goofy, but in hindsight it would have covered ALL the chemo for my Golden's lymphoma. It covered all the treatment for her Dane's bone cancer.

Just something to think about with all these stories... (Not affiliated, blah, blah, blah)

My friend hit his daughter's cat and was heartbroken when she cried. He took it to the vet who suggested putting it down, but he said to do whatever possible. $6000 later, he took the cat home and handed it to his young daughter, who then looked at the cat and said, "Why did you get the cat fixed? It was a mangy old cat anyway. We should have gotten a new one...." Needless to say, he was a bit surprised and annoyed. The cat is now his guarded treasure, and he refers to it as his $6000 cat.

Fortunately my father-in-law has been a Vet for 30 years. You'd be amazed at the diseases and treatment options available. My wife had a C-section and got staples from Kaiser Hospital. When dogs and cats get C-sections, you wouldn't even know because show animals can't have any scar tissue so they get the royal subcuteaneous stitch treatment. I see the care he give to the animals, and it's better than what most people get in hospitals.
 
By the way, good luck for your pup. We're hoping for a speedy recovery.
 
it is tough to do a cost benefit analysis on something you love....like a cruiser for instance.

it is impossible to do a cost benefit analysis on a living being......

I'd highly recommend this place. I bet it's better than some people hospitals. They have a post op recovery room where they can keep the animals warm when coming off anesthesia and a guy Atom gives them personal attention. They have rehab swim tanks. People are awesome and the DVM's a superb. I think most of them went to CSU for one thing or another in Veterinary Medicine.

Thanks to support from all. Greta has had many treats in the last hour from all of you.

Not to worry my wife is coddling her. Although somehow I think they are probably watching Lifetime and not the Animal Planet ;( I'll have her watching some OLN upland shows later :)
 
VD - in dogs!

I went all out for my dog! Half Chow / Half Lab - he was cruising the streets of Pinon (Navajo Rez) and picked up a nasty case of drippy dick! Yep, he had VD! I guess it is common on the Rez so the put him under and I assisted in helping cut all the tumors of his pecker - we did this on my kitchen floor and it only cost me $100 bucks - blood all over and my wife did not come out unitl the procedure was over......he is fine now!

Hope your GSP is okay - do you hunt?
