Would for sure use a specialist like marks off-road so you know it’s done right and with the best parts available. Not cheap but you can trust it will be done right.no definitely not a daily driver. Would be driving it during the summer from time to time, hopefully I'll make it out to a meeting one of these days in it. But I was just curious if a local shop can do just as good or if they really are a specialty item I should only trust Toyota FJ40 experts with.
I've heard horror stories of guys tuning them for many many days/weeks/months and still not getting it to run right. I think my biggest thing is probably running too rich but I'm no expert. Quite the opposite, they sort of scare me because I don't want to screw it up and then my landcruiser stops running because of it.
I'd haul it down to Valley Hybrid if I were you. Take the whole truck and let Georg rebuild and tune the carb. I will happily haul it on my flatbed car hauler if you pay for gas and lunch at Lucille's BBQ.I do also need to rebuild my steering box so I could send both out to him for rebuilding and get them both back ready to run.
