Stock Aisin carb from '83 Cruiser.

Rig is out of service having the head rebuilt, figured I'd learn about the carb and rebuild it myself while I wait.

Seemed to be going ok...except I've confused myself. I've lost track of which check valve/balls go where and some of the terminology is confusing me.

In the float bowl/body assembly there is a smaller hole which contains a small weight (plunger) and spring which sit on a check valve ball.
Next to that is a larger hole which contains the main accelerator plunger return spring which sits on a check valve ball held in place by a small circular retaining spring clip.

My problems;
1. I believe the smaller check valve ball goes in the bigger hole under the accelerator plunger return spring and held in place with the small retaining spring clip BUT I'm watching the rebuild videos which seem to contradict that. Need confirmation of which ball goes in which hole.

2. I believe my retaining spring clip is damaged as it won't hold either the large or small check valve ball in place. (Does it look right to you?) If damaged, any ideas on how to improvise or how critical these parts are?

Thanks much

Think I answered both of my own questions;
Had I watched the video just a few seconds longer I would have seen Pinhead make a correction and clearly explain that the small check ball goes into the large hole, held in place with the clip under the return spring.

And..my retaining clip is broke, I found a small chunk of it broken off. Ordered a new one....$4. Thanks Toyota.

Yes, you are now correct on the large/small ball placement. And yes, your clip is broken. Use the "turning clockwise" (I think it is clockwise) to reinstall the new clip when you receive it as explained by Pinhead in the rebuild video and make sure to push it (the clip) down gently to seat it (also explained in the video). Also, be sure to blow out all passages in the top and bottom carb sections with air to clear them of debris or residual carb cleaner (also explained in the video). Good luck!

Starting the 73 has been a crap shoot since I got it so decided to pull the AISIN carb to do a rebuild. Further to Pinheads videos I need help with two things.

1.) In lieu of the accelerator pump check valve someone decided to insert their leftover junk in that location (ref pic below with rivet and "I don't know what" piece of brass. Do you guys know a source for the plunger and the spring? Are the plungers universal (ie the part number listed above doesn't look exactly like the picture at the top of this thread)?

2.) The two long metering valves (adjacent to the accelerator pump check valve near my finger and near edge of carb body on left side of photo) seems to have two different internal hole diameters. Does the larger one go on the primary side (ie near my finger)? I chem dipped the two of them and lost track of which goes where.

Appreciate the assist!

Well I stand corrected!

It seems that "leftover junk" is whats actually shown on the parts list for the 1F. I've only rebuilt 2F's before and it looks nothing like this. I would still like validation of item #2 above if anyone is aware.

if anyone’s ends up needing a check valve plunger, I lost mine and was able to make a new one out of a aluminum rod. After I got my carb assembled and installed, I found my original one. I pulled the dimensions of the OG plunger and can get them to anyone who needs them.
