Back at it after the winter while I worked on my speedster project and daily drivers the last couple of weeks.

Locating the power antenna hole on my orig fender. Hole location is good, but hole shape is a bit off due to opening being on a curved surface. Good thing as I will use the tape pattern to transfer to the spare fender I fixed last year. Also blasted my LRA fuel tank straps but they were badly pitted so added a filler skim coat.

Decided to check if antenna still works since I last tried it. Initially, there was no movement. Got me worried, but eventually it kicked in. Seems there is a bit of a delay upon ign switch, pressing the “UP” button, and it actually moving.

Also decided rather than starting with fixing any rust, I’ll make it a priority to get the fuel tank/lines installed so I can at least start driving it again.

Cleaning up the rust etc. on the vent tube flange. The 3M Scoth-Brite Roloc discs are great. Purchased stainless hardware for the vent and pump flanges, but noticed the socket head screws for the vent flange are not M4 x 0.7. I think they are 10-32, but was sure I got M4 unless I mixed them up with some others stuff.

After I got both batteries charged (for the second time), decided to play some tunes. Had a hell of a time trying to pair it to my phone. Very strange as in the past it was super easy. Also doesn’t want to seem to read via the USB port. Hmmm…

Got the M4 x 0.7 hardware this morning and cleaned up both flanges. Sprayed with some rust converter as well. Should have done them when I had blasted the tank. Just lazy I guess. Will transfer my pump as I know it worked when I pulled it plus the other one has a hole in the sock. Lots of fiddley f’k work…Went also pick up some e-coat primer I ordered on Tuesday, and it still isn’t in even though they told me it should be there Wed or Thurs. Typical today.

More self-etching primer on the tank straps. Top coat after rust converter and self-etching primer on the vent tube assy. Also touching up the vent tube clamp, should have done all this when dealing with the tank.

Decided to paint the filler neck. Again , should have been dealt with when painting the tank. Oh well…

Drained the existing fuel out. Made a mess of course. Will flush out a bit with fresh fuel.

Also trying figure what the situation was with all the fuel line brackets/spacers. There are a total of 11 on the new fuel lines which I installed last year. I labeled the steel brackets, but am missing numbers 2, 5, and 8. Not sure what happened or if there is not a bracket for each spacer. I think I snapped one stud underneath and another on the the first bracket in the engine compartment. Frustrating trying to recall what went where. Also somehow misplaced the new vent tube. Agh. Will blast the good brackets next and the support tab for the main connector for the tank. Have three new brackets. Still need to install the vent tube clamp which is drying after another top coat. Lots of little parts to keep track of.

Fuel line brackets blasted and primed. Decided to remove the three stickers from the OEM filler neck I purchased waay back. Noticed some scratches down to metal, so decided to scuff it up so that I could apply a top coat over the factory finish. Good thing I did since the factory coat was paper thin.

Will need to get this mess of stickers off as well. Inching closer to install. Hopefully later this week. My buddy is coming to visit tomorrow, and is staying in town till Friday (work related). On Tuesday we’re heading to Ogdensburg, NY to pick up his aux fuel tank for his FJ Cruiser.
