I thought that was the 1948 Jeepster was first in the US
Well they also made this claim in the same year.

You were close with Hudson. Nash merged with Hudson but these guys were also front-runners.

They claimed a number of firsts in automotive engineering.

  • First mass-market SOHC engine in 1946.

  • First American car with 4 wheel caliper type disk brakes in 1949.

OK, so then it had to be a Crosley!!
 
We've got a winner! :clap:It is the Crosley! I saw this in my family's hometown of Tucumcari, NM about a year or so ago. Read about it here on wikipedia. During World War II, the Crosley became attractive because of gasoline rationing and the good mileage it could achieve: 50 miles per US gallon!
