You will need to buy new spring pins, but, yes, you can. Clamp the spring pack together with C-clamps first, remove old spring pins(maybe you can reuse them) install new ones upside down from the way they are installed, flip the axle.....voila!

Can You. Yes.

Do you want too. No

Most all trailer axles are built with a slight tow in in the front of the axle. If you flip the axle you will be towed out in the front. It will be all over the road when you pull it.

If you flip the axle side to side 180degrees and trun it upside down you might end up with tow in towards the front. It's been a long day and I'm not thinking clearly in three demensions. I think you will still be towed out in front.

I can't picture that. If the axle has slight toe-in and zero camber:
1. flip it 180 degrees on its axis, top is now bottom and front is now back, and it should now have toe-out.
2. rotate 180 degrees (viewed from the top), back returns to front, and it should have the original toe-in.

Of course, this only works if camber is zero.

Fixed that for you;)

That is what I was thinking. I drew it out on paper and it looked right. (I'm at a Hampton Inn instead of a Holiday Inn so I'm not thinking clearly.)

I do know that I put my very first trailer Axle on wrong. I had to flip it around 180 degrees.

Cool , Cool..

Thanks for the response!

Just to make it clear; Flip it upsidedown and rotate left to right.

Ya?..

thanks again ,

Just curious, do these suspensions articulate well when sprung over?

I have a small Jayco pop-up and I just went spring over. On mine the axle had camber with no caster I could see. So I cut the spring perch off and moved them on top of the axle. The center bolt on the spring pack did not need to be flip, the nut fit into the index hole on the perch. Packed the wheel bearings while I was there and it took about 2 1/2 hours by myself. Pick up 4 1/4" of lift:popcorn:

That would be the easiest. If he has a welder.

Yes a welder does help.
One thing I failed mention...when it was all done the tongue jack would not raise high enough. Another 1/2 hour extending the the post on the tongue jack so I could get the trailer off the truck.

Soooo... would it be better if I welded on new perches on the top, and not mess with moving the axle?

Good point on the jack extension, I will be installing one of those QD and Quick flip jacks that works off a spindle that is welded on the side of the tongue.

Thanks again,
ken

Ken by relocating the perch the factory caster and camber of the axle will be the same. No guess work...

Are you going to replace the spindles and get rid of the wheel barrow tires?

I thought he had an FJ45 so it threw me off when he said he knew nothing about leaf springs. There can't be two people from Ione, the town ain't that darn big.
Ken has an LX450, I've been on a couple of trips with him.

Ok Dan , Da Vinci ?

Thats one hell of a stretch.

As far as the tires go I have the one step up from the wheelbarrow.
Im not really sure , I figure I will lift it and go from there.

Does he have a welder?
You should see the bumper he built, he's a freakin Da Vinci with a welder.

Once again I WISH !

Is there someone in Ione with a 45? I know that there is a pig in town.
Your right the town is not that darn big.

ken (45 less) :frown:
