I've been looking around on the interwebs for different design ideas for an off road camping trailer. I stumbled on Aussie Swag Trailers and their independent suspension system:

Suspension & Chassis

I hadn't considered an independent suspension setup but this seems interesting. Thoughts on using something like this instead of the traditional solid trailer axle?

Should be over in Trailer Tech

I think there are some works in progress over there if you search...Aussies do some wild stuff.

I think the Aussie's are leap years ahead of us when it comes to the independent suspensions. Watching a KK do its thing off road, I'd say that it is a very big asset to have and worth mimicking.

I'm not a big fan of the Dexter Torqflex indep. suspensions for off roading. I have them in my utility trailer but they wouldn't last long in the tough stuf IMHO.

I've seen others come up with clever indep suspension on this board so look around for some ideas.

I like how you have basically a skid built in for going over abrupt obstacles over a straight axle.

I had a 82 Toyota pickup with a utility bed( like the power company and electricians use) and when i sold it I kept the utility bed with making a trailer in mind. Not sure what I should do for an axle, suspension and wheels for it.
