That house is awesome. I want it.

Whats wrong with body armor? Shesh....hate to hear what youd think of the insane amount of gear Ive got stored away. Kevlar riot shield anyone? :D

Just keep in mind, anything youve got someone else will want. Being mobile and on your own is a good theory, but there are always oportunits prepared to prey on loners. Pretty easy to pick off even a semi suspecting person at decent range if you know what your doing. Caves provide some shelter but lend themselves a weakness....no way out. A simple pine bow burning could easily smoke someone out of a fair sized cave. Another disadvantage is a lack of the ability to carry water. If youve got an area where water is prevalent, a purifyer may do, tablets make water taste like ass. Course....ass is better than death or dehydration.

Most of the cheaper commercially available tents cant handle sustained use. Tear easily, and get blown to pieces. If loneritis is your plan, make sure youve got a good one or that you carry the capability to make a shelter.
If body armor makes you happy go for it. It just dosen't seem necessary to me for surviving a few days without infrastructure.

And while you guys are sneaking around up in the hills I'll be drinking your beer and playing with all your good toys.

Just hope it happens during the weekend of the Rib Cook off at the Nugget. There's enough food there for weeks...
We enjoy the rib cookoff by staying home and BBQing some ribs. We hate crowds.

I'll just be reloading away and be confident enough with my 300 WinMag....good for 1000yds. Dont run, you'll only die tired

My wife and I are planning on building a new house in a few years. We are thinking more along the lines of a survivalist compound after recent events.

I think I am going to subscribe to Mother Earth News. That will get you all fired up about being self sufficient.

I used to read Mother Earth news....anti-gun, anti-hunting, anti-meat eating. Very, very PC. Try Backwoods Home mag instead - by the same group that used to publish Amercian Survival Guide. Far more practical info. The have a website where you can read some of their articles.

Our plan: get the guns, dogs & camping gear and head for our property out in the middle of nowhere. Good water, good hunting, defensible and it's hours from any city.

Anti-meat eating? Like this-

http://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading/2004_April_May/Makin__Better_Bacon

They tend to lean a little vegatarian, but alot of good homesteading info.

More info here-

When I was reading it there were several issues in a row, full of people denouncing the killing on innocent animals for meat. Maybe I just caught them at a bad time ?? I'll apologize and retract my statement then. Bacon sure does sound good!!

That's why I live in a small Western town. You guys in big cities want to get AWAY from the "others" (with good reason) in your area to protect yourselves and your families. Here, the locals will move TOWARD each other for mutual support. Sure, there are surly types everywhere, but you won't be threatening or menacing for very long around here before someone puts you out of your misery - probably the third house or so.

Did I mention my gun cabinet?
