Hey all GA crusiers, South Mississippi boy looking for a decent place to camp near Atlanta this weekend. I'd like to take my 62 down some trails as well. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

only thing I can think of is stone mountain, but not sure if it is the best place. I would surf the web and check things out.

If you are restricted to Atlanta then Pillguy has the right idea for camping, there's no legal wheeling in Atlanta. If you're open to N. Georgia then all kinds of options open up. Go wheel Beasley Knob in Blairesville and camp anywhere in the Chattahoochee NF.

Good luck on Beasley, the rain probably has it closed

Lots of FS roads for mild wheeling/scenic driving opportunities between East Ellijay and Dalonegha. Amicalola Falls State Park is a good place to camp/enter FS roads.

If headed to the Amicalola area, more tips on the trails from a recent trip up there with some ExPo guys.
from:Nashville, TN to:Nimblewill Church Rd to:34.605096,-84.15081 - Google Maps

Interpreting the map:
Off Nimblewell Church Road, go north up fs-28.
Bear left and keep going north at fs-77/28 split, taking fs-77.
The next left is fs-77a --- it's a hard downhill sort of left that's easy to drive past.
Follow 77a for a while. Up some hills, down some hills, around a pretty sharp bend. It's bumpy but not a "trail", just a semi-maintained road.
You'll come to clearing eventually with a grassy field on the left, a bit of muddy road in front and a very small bridge, and a right turn that isn't on the GPS --- take this right turn, it is fs-877 and you'll see a small sign that says that.
As you go up 877, you'll immediately see 3 campsites on the left; this is the popular area for weekend warriors. The larger and more private sites are toward the end of this road. Just keep going and you'll understand. You'll come to two water crossings; there are 2 campsites before the first one, one in the middle on the island, and 3 after the second ---- this stretch is the area to occupy.

I just saw your post. Lots of good easy riding in the NF and WMA.s and a few ORV trails in N. Georgia.

I am also looking for some where to do a little trail riding and camping. Is this private land? Do you think a stock FJ62 with 31X10.5's will have a problem any where along the way? THanks

BMT has a good location, I've camped in those exact spots many times. It's all public land and easily drivable with your truck. Also, you can hunt down many forest services roads in and around the area.

Thanks...I am still feeling out the engine and transmission on it. I want an easier trail, but not too boaring.
