One last thing about hammock camping. ENO and the other manufacturers have all these fancy attachments that they want to sell you for crazy money. Skip them all and buy yourself some mule tape. It costs about $10 / 100 feet through various online sources. We use it by the reel at the telephone company to pull cables through conduit in manholes, etc. It is super strong and lightweight. What I use is rated at 1750lbs! Stronger than any proprietary hammock cords and much cheaper as well. Good stuff. I use it around the house for all kinds of things.

I used Amsteel for my hammock rigs. 7/64 amsteel has a minimum strength of 1400lbs and average strength of 1600lbs. I like to use it for whoopie slings and building continuous loops. Amsteel is only 50ft for $10. 7/64 Amsteel Blue (25 Feet)

Overland Bound is giving away a free skottle it seems.

Win a Skottle!

You know I almost ordered one of those before going to Ocracoke but tried for four days calling them and couldn't get anyone to answer a message. I even emailed twice and to this day no-one has responded.

Stinks because they were happy to sell me a MaxTrax bag but when it comes to talking to someone about technical questions before dropping some coin on something they were nowhere to be found.

@Izzyandsue , you're such a foodie!

I witnessed you cook a couple Jimmie Dean sausage paddies.
News Alert: Jimmie Dean stuff can taste like plastic! So we went to the farmers market and got 2 lbs of pork breakfast sausage, organic grass fed treehugging greatfuldead tie-dyed pig. My wife cooked it this morning, and that was truly amazing.

So I added a couple of heaping spoonfuls of that stuff to the vegetarian soup (hey, I am a meat-a-saurus), some feta cheese... and boy I can eat vegetarian now!

So, next patties will come from that farm, they show up twice a month to the Matthews Farm Market.

So, does this mean you are making breakfast next trip?

I will be making sausage patties, need to make sure I keep a stash at home. Coffee, hardboiled eggs, cheese, will remain the same. Jimmie Dean I will bring for the doggies.

I was hard boiling a few eggs for a salad the other night, Heather says "Izzy would be proud of you" :)

More proud if you opened a bag of pre-hard-boiled

I had the picked beet hard boiled egg the other day - pretty good. Looks like they pickle beats and put eggs in the left over stuff :)

We are bringing this with us to the Outer Banks as a support vehicle:

Is it camping if you get to sleep in air conditioning?

If we had the discussion, I think I missed it. What are you folks doing for first aid kits?

Seen a bunch of them on Amazon and wondered if we had any EMTs or other medically trained folks that can recommend one?

Great timing, was wondering the same thing this past weekend.......going on a family road trip in a few weeks.

You can buy or make your own. You can find detailed spec lists for First Aid Kits on websites like REI, if you want to make your own. You can review what each item does if you don't know online, and decided to take or not based on that.

A couple key additions that I would recommend:
