Now that looks damn good! And the bit about riding...er eating ..out a storm in one of the DV cabins begs for the story!

I'll leave the Death Valley trip story telling to Mark A

The guys that shared the Minnietta cabin with us that night had brought quite a 'spread' of food for themselves, but when they saw Dusty's pizza, all of a sudden, they weren't so full that they couldn't make room for a slice!

That was an awesome evening for other reasons as well.

On a hunch, I had nudged Dusty away from the Anchor Steams at the Panamint Valley Resort [where it's on tap!] at 3 in the afternoon on a Wednesday to make sure we'd get the cabin. Now, worrying about getting the cabin at 3 in the afternoon on a Wednesday might seem a little extreme, but sure enough, we almost missed out.

Our luck, the Tahoe that was just ahead of us in the canyon couldn't make the direct, rocky assent up the last stretch of road, and had to go up canyon and double back. By the time they got there, Joe and I had already opened up the cabin and cracked open a couple of Fat Tires, thus staking our claim.

I offered them the bedroom in the cabin, but they declined. The next party that came up the canyon 20 minutes later [yeah, it was really THAT BUSY on a Wednesday afternoon] were initially reluctant, but it turned out that their leader was a fellow member of the cabin preservation group I belong to, and once we established mutual acquaintances, they warmed up to us.

As fate would have it, I had hoped to take Joe to explore another cabin in the Argus range that some locals had told me about. Richard, the leader of the other group had brought materials with him to repair yet another cabin which happened to be a couple of miles inside a wilderness area. Joe and I ended up helping carry materials and hiking into some awesome backcountry with our new acquaintances the next day, probably 7 miles round trip. So we definitely had worked up quite an appetite by dinner that night.

Great story: Thanks!
