Cable locker pictures?

Hi everybody!

Guys, i was measuring the bearings and all on a limited slip today. Well, inside diameter on the bearing is 45mm and outside is 78mm. Anyone has the measurements for the locker bearing, on the locking mechanism side? And if ever someone knows the size of the 41453 locking cog, i would happy to know it's dimensions.

Best regards.

Max.

Max, I'd be happy to measure the cog in a few days, but I'm hesitant to take out the bearing as it is a major pain to reinsert the shims. IIRC the locker side bearing is smaller than the standard.

Hi Dave, thanks a lot for your reply! Don't worry about taking the bearing out, the shaft onto which it is mounted sticks out a litle so you can measure the inside diameter, and for the outside, a caliper/eye aproximation should be sufficient for me! But just the cog could be fine. My latest idea! Since the cog and locker side of the diff are the same profile, two cogs should lock into each other! Therefor i'd buy two cogs, and try to find a way to mount it at the end of the diff, i'm not talking of the actuating mechanism yet, but there's a fair bit of room in thoses axles! That 45mm hollow axle (where the splined shaft goes in and the bearing mounts outside!) is my problem, the cog looks far bigger, if we didn't have to change the bearing from time to time, I would mill/turn of the fork's groove and weld the cog's locking ring onto the inner bearing race and diff shaft and be done with that part!

Best regards.

Max.

Now i have a cable locker question.

Last sunday i broke my first birfield (i'm so proud), which happened to be the long side axle shaft, with the long splines.
I took out the broken birf. and the axle shaft on the trail and continued in rear wheel drive.
But today i rembered that without the axle shaft the locking cog could fall out. Is this true or am i making things up here?
I locked the front up but i'm not sure if i'm in trouble now.
Looking at the picture Beanz2 posted the cog might not fall out because of the protrusion on the bearing caps.
Any input would be appriciated.
And sorry about the hijack.

Max,

I'm not 100% sure if I follow your explanation but by this week's end I'll take those measurements for you. Please PM me your e-mail address so we don't clog up woody's server with stuff useless to others :)

Mark,

It is possible for the locking cog to fall out but if you are lucky it may still be on the fork. Lock the diff and slowly turn the driveshaft or the other wheel. If you hear a single clunk thank the Lord as the cog is still in the fork.

You can also feel it when you reinsert the axle shaft. As you enter the locking cog the axle slides in smoothly but when you hit the side gear the force needed to insert goes up quite a bit, often you have to twist the driveshaft and sometimes unlock the diff to make it go in, as the splines between the locking cog and the side gear are often not perfectly aligned. If you don't feel any difference as you insert the axle shaft in, the locking cog may have fallen off...

I never tried it, but maybe you can see it from the housing's end. It's hard to see in there while getting light to shine in at the same time.

Just a small update,

It seems that i was lucky, because the locking cog didn't fell out, even after 3 hours of wheeling in two wheel drive and about 150 road miles.

Bringing this one back, i just stumbeled across this site, where somebody fabbed a cable locking diff. from scratch basicly.
Altough it's a Suzuki axle it might work on a Cruiser too.

Where can I find a replacement locking cog for the cable locker setup on my HJ61V.
Do Toyota still sell these parts? I've heard that they are as rare as hens teeth.
Any one able to help?

I have an old axel w/ locker.

Could any if you that have one to, tell me how much power you need to apply to lock/unlock ??

On my axel it is impossible to do with just your fingers.. You need to apply a lot of power to make it go in lock.

The axel is not mounted on my HJ60 yet.. But I just wondered if there is something wrog with the locking mecanism.

Hope you can help me out :)

Regards

Do you mean the sleeve that moves onto the shaft, or the fork that moved the sleeve, or if neither, can you explain the function?

41453-60010 for the sleeve
41451-60010 for the fork

Phone your local Toyota dealer and see if the numbers are good.
