I'm looking at a 2008 LX that had a recent transfer actuator assembly error C1268 . The Lexus dealer reset it and it hasn't happened again, that was 2k mile ago. in the Lexus notes said the transfer actuator assembly appeared to be locked up, but they didn't recommend any further repairs. if I had to get it repaired, what would it run?

like 1-2k ish or more? is this a problem with the 2008's? the service history is impeccable. they person who owned it before did everything needed. I see from the notes he even complained that there was an imperfection in the wood trim and had it replaced. I just want to make sure I'm prepared for what may come of it. it honestly may be nothing to worry about. extended warranties seem to be a complete rip off. Autonation quoted almost 4k for a 3yr/36k

here is what they dropped in the lexus service disc-

description: C/S MOVE FORWARD WITH NEEDED DIAGNOSTIC FOR ABS,VSC, AND 4-LO WARNING LIGHTS ~|~C/S MOVE FORWARD WITH NEEDED DIAGNOSTIC FOR ABS,VSC, AND 4-LO WARNING LIGHTS ~|~VERIFIED THE CUSTOMER CONCERN FOR THE ABS,VSC, AND 4-LO LIGHTS BEING ILLUMINATED. do you think it's because the prior owner didn't use 4Low often enough? or, even at all? is this like the electric rear diff's in the 100's that fail/freeze given lack of use? it looks like it happened at 78k and then again at 82k. Those are the only times in the vehicle history that it's happened.

Hey man, hope all is well.

Does it go into 4low after the reset? If it does it may just be sticky from lack of use like in the 100s.

Hey Ali! how are you? I cannot thank you enough for your help with my LC. I haven't purchased the LX 570 yet. it's in Reno, I'm flying out next Tuesday to pick it up. I can tell from the service comments that the former owner was a stickler for every detail on the car, to a point of being a nitpicky. I'm thinking that they never ever used low range. it sounds like it could be lack of use. the dealers comment were that it worked as it should and never could replicate the issue. how's the 100 roof rack holding up?

Yeah, chances are the light flashed and they didnt know that a few cycles would fix it instead of taking it in. Most LX owners seem to take maintenance very seriously from my searches which is nice. Best of luck and hope it turns out to be a good truck. The rack lives on but it went with the 100 maybe a year ago and Lives on 20k acres in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan now. Got one made from Tim locally for the 200 that is very similar.

this is a one owner car, 84k with every option. it's out of Reno NV, so a dry climate and the price is $30.5k. I looked at a few locally, they had more miles and were $3-5k more. Seems like a decent deal to me. I've seen some not so great LX570's sell quickly here in the Denver market.

Thats a pretty good price for the mileage and condition. If you have not had a PPI done at Lexus it never hurts before making a long trip and if something pops up it make for a nice bargaining chip. At that mileage I would be looking closely at water pump, engine valley for coolant leaks and a few other common things like radiator for the infamous crack below the name stamp area.

It had a new WP at 65k. What’s a PPI? I’ll be all over the car looking for anything I can find to knock it down.

Pre purchase inspection. They go through a whole checklist and anything extra you tell them. Runs about 1-2 hours labor depending on dealer. Being Lexus dealers they generally find all sorts of little thing you would not think to look for or test.

Great idea. What did you look for when you bought yours? Did you have a check list you followed?

I did the normal one few times which was pretty extensive. If they find anything that requires more diagnosis they let you know. Compression or leak down are extra also. First one I almost bought needed $6k in work that was not known. Steering racks are expensive on these.

Wow, I’ll call the local Lexus dealer and get one scheduled. Thanks for ththe heads up. Where did you find your LX?

I got one scheduled at Dolan Lexus. The Mercedes dealer was totally cool about it. 191 point inspection for $125. Plus, the dealer gives me a 90 day 4k mile AutoNation warranty. getting the Cam towers, suspension, frame, trans, body, rack/suspension, etc inspected. Any other points of concern I should ask them about? i'll also go over the car

Wife’s came from Atlanta. Had a PPI done, negotiated(had leaking water pump and a few little things), flew out to physically see it and make the deal and shipped it back. Mine was local so much easier.

Looks like you have all the main points covered, again the only other one that caught us off guard was the coolant leak in the valley. Make sure they or you poke a flashlight through the little openings that let you see in the valley for any coolant residue.

Sorry, didn't read all above, but had the same issue on my '08. Reported the issue since 5K miles no less than eight times. Finally had it fixed once and for all as we were finally able to get an error code. As it had been reported and misdiagnosed many times prior, Toyota assisted partially with the cost. You have to call Toyota directly -- they are well aware of transfer case actuation issues, especially if 4LO isn't engaged at least every month. There's several posts on mud previously -- and I have a longer write up on one of them.

Word to the wise for others -- switch to 4LO and back at least once a month. The system is supposed to do this on it's own apparently, and that's why my error would occur about once a month in the garage after starting.

Good luck!

thanks for the heads up. What was the total cost before Toyota helped out, if I may ask? I'll be diligent about doing that. thanks for the advice. since replacing the part, you've had no troubles?
