I a still not able to get the middle gear out, it feels like there is another spacer or something when the axle backed out and was held by the c-clip. THe differential gears wont come out through the window in the differential. It seems like there is a round axle-diameter plug still down there?

Any suggestions, I will try and have another go later tonight so any info you want to arm me with will be put to immediate and earnest use!

Lockrights have a round cap that fits over the end of the axle and hold the C clip in. Push the cap all the way to the center to pull the coupler half out.

Get the lock right instructions. They are all like a Chinese puzzle where you have to get all the pieces in the right direction in the right sequence.

The round caps Pin_Head's referring to are the #3's in the pic. And he's right about the Chinese puzzle.
They're tough enough when you get them new and can play with'em on the bench. Learning them while installed has gotta be tough.
I'm still not sure yours is a Lock Right brand but it's close. I bought mine 15 or more years ago but only recently installed it so they may have changed a little. Just don't know.
