help! im not too familiar with either diesels or 70 series, i have a 55 series that im fixing up and im looking to get a DD. so sorry to start yet another buying help thread but, i looked through the other 2 threads and they didnt really help me. this is a BJ70RV and the owner has listed it as a 3ltr which would make it a straight B motor yeah? I am not sure but maybe someone could confirm or deny my suspisions, that it is actually a 3B or 3.4ltr? it has done 340,000 klms (approx 200-220,000miles) will the engine be getting a bit old or should i still have a few more Klms out of it before it will need attenetion?

attached are a few pics for your visual enjoyment :)

BTW, asking price is $4500, and has been for sale for a few weeks now, might be able to get him to budge a bit?? hehe

thanks

If its a BJ70 then it would be the 3B. The badging also suggests this. It looks fairly neat and tidy but those kms would worry me a bit.

And just for comparison i payed 4500 for my 13BT jap import bj71 w 139000 on the clock. If you make an offer i would make a stupid offer and see if you get lucky.

i'm new here.. that said i'm not sure if i'd be of any help.. but a bj70 in my hood is going for between $5500-$12000. depending on mods etc... kms range from 300000 to 420000kms.. i got mine and it has the 3b in it with 420000kms it still flies. my experience with diesels is limited to vws and now the toyota, and i know that with REGULAR MAINTENANCE they will last a long time! just for piece of mind get a compression check on it.. hope i helped.. that truck looks good! g/l!..

yeah there in lies the detail/point/case, REGULAR MAINTENANCE, i know it will get if i buy it, but not too sure if its had it. but i spose by looking at the condition of the rest of the rig you can get a reasonable idea as to the possible maintenance that has been done. see if there is any mud under it, rust anywhere, leaks on the motor, diffs. i wouldnt be surprised if its in good nick tho, no lift, road tyres.
meh i dont know ill take a look see if its any good. keep you posted thanks for your input guys

most of these rigs get the bag driven off them with no one knowing, expecially the road queens.... just staying a 100km on a little incline is enough to get some insane EGT's....

compression test
coolant pressure test
full inspection
personal test drive for at least an hour

that price seems fair.

as for low balling a seller, if you want it then don't screw around. if you do not care if you get it or not then low ball him.
as a seller, if someone gives me a stupid offer he is screwed, even if he comes back with full price offer. sellers are people, insult them and expect them to take it personal.

just a free bit of advice.

its gone :(

got onto another one tho.

BJ73 tho and its a bit more $5000 and ALOT further away about 6hour drive.....
