I couldn't sell my '85 BJ70 with a rebuilt engine and a turbo, but with a rough body for $6k, so I think that's a bit expensive.

I think Canadian BJ70's should be going for under $4k in my opinion.

My two cents,
Craig.

I think it's worth it, if the tub looks nice and the frame is good....

This biggest thing with the CDN spec trucks, is there were ones that were well oiled and ones that weren't..... something that's been oiled can withstand the tests of time.... and will be worth more IMO...

go take a look

It kind of does need a bit, think it should be around 5000....

It does, or did until it melted... to what extent it was used I'm not entirely sure. I believe it was just used to fill the hole at the back of the rocker panel. The rest of the rocker panel looks good though. But my eyes could be shaded by the LC blinders I'm probably wearing

The owners going to get back to me about my offer for a little less...

looking at the checkerplate, the rust then expect much more hidden in the rear floor corners, wheel well to floor, seam along inside of front doors, and who knows where else...

if it is running strong and he is selling certified and you want a basic DD/wheeling rig NOT A MONEY PIT then the price is okay... if you want to build up a nice cruiser then this is not a good bases to build from...

Yes, I'm just looking for basic transportation that I can work on a little hear and there. Based on what the owner has said, the floor is solid. He even said at the back was solid, despite the rusted looking metal carpet strip at the back doors. The rear diff sounds like it might need work. I had him push up and down on the rear driveshaft and watch the pinion and he says there is a little play, and the seal does leak.

There's not much I can do to check the engine thought right? All, will have some air/smoke? coming out the breather right?

How often do these BJ70's come up for sale anyway? I see there's a nice one on Calgary Kijiji, but even it has been painted before (no price listed either).

The best way is with a compression test. If thats not practicle, then a cold start will tell you a lot.
By cold start I mean an engine that has not been started AT ALL for at least 12hrs or more.
Some owners will get out there just before you arrive and let it run for 20 seconds.
Im not suggesting Arty will do that but I have caught 2 owners doing that.
When they are cold started ,a engine with bad compression on one or more cyls will take time to fire, run very rough and make a lot of greyish blue smoke.
It can be difficult to sort this problem from a bad glowplug

At 276000klms its probably ok if tis had its oil and filters changed reguarly.
The smoke from the breather should be just a whisker, not too noticeable
