front axle locked up?????

hey guys im new with the cruiser. im buying a 76 fj40 for $1500 its been sitting for about 5 years. it rund but the front axle locked up on it. i dont really know where to start to look for the problem:hhmm: but if anyone can please help me with this it would be great!!:clap: thanks kyle.
 
Isolate the problem. Remove front driveshaft, check transfer case for rotation. Remove front tires, brake calipers and rotors, check for rotation. If still nothing, you'll have to tear down the axle and remove the third to inspect everything. Put a breaker bar across the wheel studs to get some force in the rotation. It might just be some frozen seals. Either way, if it doesn't free up after removing the brakes and driveshaft, I would rebuild the front. After 5 years, it would probably need it anyway.

welcome aboard.

First, start a new thread, this one is for folks buying and selling items, not trouble shooting.

second, define the problem well, what exactly is locked up? Are the tires not spinning when driving, is the diff spinning, Is the driveshaft turning, is the output shaft from the transfer case not turning, are you in 4hi or 4 lo or 2wd, are the hubs locked etc....etc...etc....

Be as specific as possible with the the problem and describe your setup and the steps you've taken to diganose the issue to this point.

The answers will come but specifics will make life much easier for you and everyone.

Anyone on the list have a 95 - 97 Tacoma? I'm on the fence about selling the Bestop Supertop and thinking of pursuing a Can-Back.

Not sure where to begin on the Bestop. Bought it used. It's in fair - good shape. Some fading as it seems to have been run full time by P.O. It has both the vinyl windows and the screen window zip outs. It's missing the rear zip-in window but I think this can be had off Bestop for about $60.

Thinking of asking about $250 for it. Would entertain offers.
