Buy a Prado, or no Prado???

My head blew the first week after we picked it up. Luckily we'd discussed our concerns with the dealer and he'd promised to cover it at cost if it happened, and in fact Penticton Toyota ended up replacing the head and a bunch of other stuff at no cost to us, since they were the original importers. I'd hate to have to pay for it myself though, so it's definitely something to consider.

I love my Prado though:cool:

Sweet

Hey thank you so much for all your advice dudes. I am getting a Land Cruiser and I know that this forum will be an awesome resource.

Sub Notes:

No I am not looking at doing this for business, just to acquire a reliable vehicle. As if I would get anywhere with good people like Wayne around doing awesome business.

I think i'm done looking at the Prado's. I only need a 2 door, and I have a truck to pull my trailer around from site to site. I just need to get to work and back, and be able to get through some snow, mud, and not too crazy stuff like that. I am now looking at an 1991 HZJ73V, with the 1HZ. Did the 1HZ have a turbo on it in that model and year. I have seen some older ones with Turbo, but not any 1991's yet.

I will continue to be fanatically devoted to this forum to progress from ignorant to informed.

Thank you again and stay classy

Andrew

I think with a bit of patience and a lot of research, you can get exactly the truck you want, and avoid those with heads that go "pop" or con rod bearings that go "snarch"....(did you say 1HZ?)

That being said, if you're in love...you're in love....I'd give my eye teeth for a 75 troopie with split rims and suspension seats.

The HZ is a naturally aspirated engine; it never came turbo from the factory. Not to say you might not find one with a turbo on it, but it was put on after. The 1HD-T is the direct injected factory turbo charged brother to the 1HZ.

If you go 1HZ, and if you turbo it, I recommend doing the connecting rod bearings at the same time. Do a search on 1HD-T and bearings for lots of reading and pictures.

Stay classy...for sure. Stay real too...

Andrew,
the 1 HZ is a sweet assed engine, quiet, powerful, good on fuel and you can add a turbo to these but get one that is mapped to your driving habits. do the BEB if you plan on turboing it. the cost is between $650-$750 depending on the shop you go to. you can do it yourself but i would rather have someone's warranty to go back after if the BEB were to fail, cheap insurance.
you will love the 1HZ once it is turbo'd...
cheers
