We're planning a trip north and were thinking about stopping at the Burro Creek campground for an easy, and scenic, place to spend the night that doesn't take us too far off our route.

It's been years since I've been there and am curious if anyone has any up to date intel. Is it busy? We'll be hitting it Saturday afternoon mid-May (warmish). Facilities decent? I think they closed all the non-improved sites years ago (bummer).

Thanks!!

Good spacing between sites. Plenty of potable water spigots throughout campground. Flush toilets. Watch for rattlers, one in the ladies room when there last summer.

I didn't stay there. Only passed through a couple of months ago. It was PACKED when I was there. There may have been a few spots open. Since it was dumping buckets we decided to bail and head for home. I wouldn't say the campground is very scenic. However the drive to the west/southwest is. If you think you can go north on the big bridge to then drive down to the canyon you can't. It ends at a waterfall. Could you hike from there? Maybe... This is the trail on the west side of the road right before the bridge that some may have seen.....

Hey @pbr streetgang , IIRC you're a BCR, too? My parents camped there after the last Big Sandy and reported lots of flies anywhere near the stagnant water. Keeping to the windy side and out of the shade helped. They have water hookups, but dry camping, no dump.

May weather can be on the warm side, but lenty of hiking in the area if only along the waters edge. HTH,

Just camped there this last winter. Talked with the Ranger, advised "Never has the campground been completely full" plenty of spots when we went avail. No Wifi / No Cell reception, really clean restrooms, Water was in the stream, quite and worth the trip.

We were there over Easter Weekend based on Skyehunter's recommendation. Got there mid Friday and we were able to get a pull through for our 40' RV. Nice place and in general, you're not right on top of the next person. Plenty of trash receptacles and like mentioned there is water avail. Didn't check if you could hook a hose to them without a cheater. Didn't use the facilities as we are self contained. Nice place and the dogs enjoyed the water. Zero (Verizon, so AT&T would be less than zero) cell coverage if that is important.
