Bumperette question...

I now know why I have been carrying my brand new bumperettes in my trunk for 3 weeks now:D .

I just went out and looked at the packaging. The bumperettes I ordered were new from Toyota, for a 79 FJ40, the side with the most curve goes to the inside, toward the step.

How proud is Toyota of them now a days? Just wondering...

These are the bumperettes on my '79BJ40. They have NEVER been removed from the vehicle, this is how Toyota mounted them. I know this because it had only 7 km on it at the dealers when I took it for a test drive in May of '79 and the 4 km added to that when I bought it were mine. (It is a Jan '79 build, Jan was the month they went from the fuel tank under the passenger seat to the fuel tank under the tub). The bumperettes have obviously taken a bit of abuse but this may help. The curvy part is on the inside.

Sorry, even with my camera set on VGA the pictures used too much memory for this forum, I don't have time to mess with it right now, might try again tomorrow.

Here's Kootenay Kruzer's pics. Looks like curved side in for me.

I have a great Toyota parts man who I have been purchasing parts from for 15 years and he seems to give me good deals so I paid 26.96ea.

after looking at the frame dimensions from the earlier post .i looked at some of the other dimension info i had and noticed in one they had the curve in and in another they had the curve out ,all info taken from the same manual (aussie book) , first FJ with softtop ,then FJ40-V hard top ,then FJ43 softtop:doh:
look at the bumperette curve :grinpimp:

the manual had said this info was for FJ40 but the pic kinda looks like a FJ25 NO/YES ??

FJ25 vs FJ40... If you cannot see the grille, the next quick spotting feature is the rear wheel well. The FJ25 has a round opening. The FJ40 is flat on the top of the opening.

As for the bumperettes, I found out I had two left hand bumperettes. Ordered an NOS RH and installed it.

I'd like to also install a step, but the factory one hangs down too far (and from what I've seen are spendy).

AH ! i forgot about the round wheel well ,i new about the grill

the German 40's are odd, they have extra moulding and protective rubber(like window hinges) all over the rigs, the hood hold downs are also rubber, also extended bumpers and the insert from bumper to fender(guess to keep peds from getting stuck in there?)

Anyone notice the body molding on top of the bumperettes on the red FJ?
