Bummer... any advice on dealing with insurance company?

I actually work at an insurance brokerage in raleigh and work with about 6 different companies and have a degree in insurance and can give you some advice if you'd like. Some adjusters are easier to work with than others and are receptive to pushback when it comes to value. Do you have collision coverage on your car? What company are you with and the other party? If you want to PM me or email me, let me know and I can try to help you out.

Good news for today - the adjuster thinks its worth fixing!
they feel like they can do the body work, deal with oil pan, the leaf springs, etc - so she is off to a body shop
Now just have my fingers crossed that when she gets up on the lift, there is not more serious damage and they call it off
Definitely a surprise but Im trying not to get too excited just yet...

Thank you for the offer -
I have Nationwide and do have collision
The other party has State Farm - 18 yr old driver in his parents car and so far, I dont think there is anything wrong with his policy. Police report cites him for failure to yield and inattentiveness leading to the wreck. As above, right now, things are looking positive but I will PM you if something breaks down - thank you!

When I talked to Hagerty earlier this year they wouldn't insure a daily driver

Yep. I talked to State Farm, All State, Hagerty, and Aemerican Collectors before State Farm finally called me back and agreed to cover me. AS and SF said stated/agreed value was for antiques or classics and even though our trucks fit the age driving it over 2K miles a year exempts the vehicle. American collectors gave me a great plan online and on the phone they said they weren't interested in covering SUVs, ha. The head of the State Farm location simply said if I had documentation of the work done to the car, current photos, and a bill of sale stating the price it was no problem to cover (even in the horrific event of a total loss).

Good news for today - the adjuster thinks its worth fixing!

Congrats and good luck. Hopefully they take a good look and get things straightened out for you.

My state farm guy told me the same thing. Documentation was key. However that was when selling insurance to me. Hopefully I will never have to test his pitch

I have American Collectors on the FJ40 and it was a huge bargain. I guess they don't consider it a SUV? And they would cover my 60 but not such a bargain for some reason. Neither of mine are daily drivers, maybe 2000 miles on them each per year average, some years more, some less. I have State Farm for the 60 and the 100.

We've had some guys in our club burned by State Farm. If the policy doesn't give a stated value or limit then all your "Extras" are not covered. That's why I've been able to help a ton of people get the coverage they deserve. Even had a guy sink a Jeep in Kane Creek. 80k later he was a happy guy!

Maybe we should talk and sign me up for a stated value policy?

Bad news today
After going on the lift, addn damage to steering linkage and other issues brings estimate to $5500 which makes it totaled
Silver lining is they valued car at $7100 and that is before they take into account any upgrades - the two biggies being the 5-speed and the OME lift
Most of the other work I've done is replacement/repair/rust work
So next step is waiting for to hear from their total loss dept and digging up all my receipts
Then they will make two offers - one with me keeping truck with salvage title - and one with them taking the truck
I bought it in 2003 with 65k miles for $7500- now has 105k (though really more like 125k when accounting for the 33" tires)
I'm not sure what they'll end up offering-

I started a thread about Sale Prices of 60's/62's for just this reason - LandCruiser For Sale Ads for Reference

Everyone who see's a 60/62 sell for a good price should post the add and info in the thread. Everyday our LandCruisers are going up in value, and trying to convince an adjuster to pay a high price is hard. This info helps. It could be YOU who needs it some day.

As I am going thru this process, I will add a comment on this thread.

It is a great idea and will definitely help others if they have to go thru this. However, what the insurance companies want is sales price - not asking prices. The asking price is not going to help. In addition to the actual sales price, To Use these as true comps to help get value, people have to be willing to supply phone numbers and/or bill of sales. If the company cannot confirm the price, they will not use it as a comp.

Currently, for my 87 (105k miles) with h55 5-speed and 2" OME lift I am being offered 7k (6k to retain vehicle) despite having evidence that I bought it in '03 for 7500 and with receipts of over 10k

Tgadd hooked me up with a recent fj62 purchase that he made and if anyone else out there would be willing to share what they paid with documentation, I would certainly be grateful.
