So I am going to a speed shop local here to pick something up for a friend and there should be other goodies there that I surely want. Then of course there is the welding shop auction in May. Top that all off and I just bought a 3fe and now I am debating if I should start from scratch and make a 2fe MS or stick with the 2f the way I have it currently set up.
I need a cheaper hobby, perhaps I should buy a boat...
Whoohoo! The garage and basement are almost all the way cleaned out. Looks like I will be back to working on the cruiser soon. Working on fixing the tub next!

A new issue has crept up that I am starting to troubleshoot where the motor starts missing / running rough once it gets hot. It doesn't have anything to do with coolant temp, instead I think it's ignition related. Either the spark output on the MS or it's the MSD box / coil. Feel free to PM me to discuss your project.

Thanks. I have get to fire mine up and mm still in the wiring process. I did use the a DYI PNP Megasquirt that accepts the stock 3FE harness.
Did you use the idle control valve?
Any reason you went with the MSD box? is it a coil on plug setup? I was planning on just using the distributor, since it was already capable for electronic advancement. Do you mind posting you ignition maps

I'm using the stock idle control valve (4-wire) and closed loop idle control. That works real nice, I can barely stall it using the brakes as the control valve starts opening up and keeping her from stalling. Should be nice in the rocks, but I haven't quite gotten that far yet. As far as my ignition, I'm just using a MSD 6A CDI box and a universal (Accel Super Stock) coil with the 3FE dizzy. I already had the MSD box, so I used it so the MS2 is not having to drive much spark output and don't need to worry about overdriving that transistor. I'm happy to share my spark map, that was developed by a local dyno tuner. It works fine, but there is room for improvement. She threw down ~145 RWHP and ~210lb ft of torque up over 4500 - dyno'd in third gear on worn out 35" tires.
As you can see, there isn't a lot of vacuum advance. Note, this was tuned w/ 93 Octane - my motor is a bit higher compression than stock, but I've run this on 87 and haven't detected any pinging. So, I think it would be pretty benign on a stock compression 2fe. I plan to tune this again later on down the road once I get this last bug worked out.
Thanks that is really helpful. I am surprised at the 22 deg advance at low RPM and low load, I was expecting that it would be more in the 10-15 range.
I will be running a turbo on mine so the load range will go up to 150 KPa, but I will start with very conservative timing there like in the 10 deg, and 11.5 AFRs + water meth injection. BTW do you mind sharing your AFR and VE tables too?
