awesome! sounds great if you ask me! have we seen a picture of the truck its going in yet?? hehe

Oh there are pictures here and there on this thread. Got the cucumber coating off for the most part and I started to fix the rust and rollover damage that was discovered once the green bumpy truckbed coating came off.

Every once and a while you find something, no matter how well known or unknown the product is, that amazes you. I have found such a product.

One word.

Hylomar.

It's the bee's knees.

Hylomar sealed things up nicely... I got a 650 idle and it sounds nice. Still tuning... not much more tuning I can do though without a load on the engine. Gonna have to wait till it is in the truck for that tuning.

Amuarer can attest to how nice it sounds if the video doesn't get the message across. I let him listen too it via google voice. :)

Couldn't think of or find on the google the size of a 72 fj-40 tank so I went generic size for the era.

is that the "scientific approach"?! i figure if somebody is trying this hard to polish a turd ( blown injected hei boat anchor ) then they'd at least know the size of the gas tank in the vehicle of=r a way to find out how much fuel it holds.

Don't poke the bear!

Come awn Jim, lemme have a little fun! ;)

i'm not going to follow suit with the usual mudder group hug on this one. If you're gonna come on here yapping all this book smarts then you'd better carry it all the way thru the thread. Just calling a spade a spade.

And just to make sure that there's no risk of this being deemed chat; maybe Joey should consider utilizing a GPS unit to determine the true distance travelled and start with a full tank, then fill it again at the end of the trip, making sure to keep track of the fuel stops and how much fuel was added. That way he could come up with actual data instead of spewing more mis-information on here.

6mpg?! Good running 2f!?

I haven't seen that 40 since I sold it around 2000 and the trip down to Savanah was around 99. I even said I was wrong on my estimates of mpg based on some generic numbers that came to mind for that era. You're kicking a dead horse. I am not book smart at all but I am not afraid of them either. I am going to ask nicely for you to please stop with the poor attitude. I haven't been nice to you either and I appologize for that. So please just let it be. I am tired of this.

good enough.

i guess my biggest gripe with this "conversion" is very simple; "WHY"? i realize that you're trying to think outside the box. and i appreciate that. without people willing to take a risk on something new, things would become stagnant very soon.
in theory, some of your ideas seem ok, but your engine concept is far from practical. why use a bunch of esoteric parts from so many different sources when you can take a direction that would make things a lot more serviceable and up-to-date?
i've done a few conversions. if there's anything i've learned, then it's to make things as simple as possible and to use as many oem components as possible. pays dividends down the road.........but then again, maybe i'm getting old and set in my ways.

I went this path because more than anything it was a challenge and that is the only way one learns something very well is by digging in and getting eyeballs deep in it. I knew the theory of how an engine, fuel injection, electronic ignition, and an ECM works, but not the details. I wouldn't have learne anything I had just gone with a gm ecu. It's a black box to me. What I have learned though is all the base details and now I can apply that knowledge to any engine, fuel injection, electronic spark, and ecu. I can also now use the electrical engineering knowledge to a whole bunch of things. And the MS isn't really that essoteric it has been used tens of thousands of times to great sucess and reliablity. There are no moving parts in the ecu it is all solid state built from components that have been in production for years. I will have to rebuild the engine before I will need to replace the MS. I personally believe that the reliabilty of my MS2/extra is just as good as any ecu on the market.

I have got all the parts ready to go but it is on hold due to the fact that it has taken me 1 year to get my permits then another year and counting to get the general contractor to finish my house. Shows up for a week then disappears for 3 weeks. If I ever do this again I am going to be my own GC. Very frustrating.

So close yet so very very far away. Here's the project that is holding up the this project. Just bored at work so I figured I would put up some pics from Turbo Floor Plan as to how the house will look in the places that matter. Oh and to answer your question, yes I did indeed build my house around a garage.

Pictures of the house. It will be done according to the GC by 10/1/2009. He started the first week of August last year. Sad part about is is this guy is a friend of the family too. *Sigh* Well I do have a great place to finish working on the $) in to look forward too. BTW the wall with the door between the workshop and the garage is temporary to get past the inspector. It will be torn down and a 10 foot sliding barn door will be put there.

Last two pictures. I really am hoping it to be done very soon. Things seem to be moving now and while I know this isn't very LC relevant, it helps me to start thinking about my 40 project again.

Whatever happened to this guy?
still wrestling with the remodel?
I'd seen him pushed to the edge of cobativeness, Id thought he may have ended up getting banned, or pissed off to the point of leaving. I hope this isn't the case, he seems an able hand, and has a unique idea to work on.

I'm still here. Still in remodeling hell. If I ever do this again, and that is a big if, I am going to be my own GC. On the bright side I am in the last phase before I can get a CO. All that is left is plumbing fixtures, baseboard radiators, electrical outlets/switches/lights, paint, tile, and flooring. The big pain in the ass inspection code things are done and what a nightmare that was because we used spray foam instead of fiberglass and the inspector in my small town doesn't like the new fangled foam and doesn't believe that it works regardless of what official lab tests say and what those architects say. He don't like them there facts.

Hmm come to think of it if he could figure out what a computer is he would get along just fine and dandy with some folks here. :)

Well it only took my contractor 2 and a half years but my house is finally complete. Oh and that huge garage? Completely filled with my girlfiends junk. *sigh* I just can't win.

 Have pictures of it finished before it got filled with junk?
