sooo as a result i cracked the frame around the steering gearbox. i decided it was time to park her and give her some love. i got a plate kit from delta to plate over the frame, while the steering box is out i resealed it and upgraded to the 105 shaft.

Took a little while to get the transfer case done. I made a mistake, when I took the bearings out of the output shaft housings i didnt remember which came from which and when i put the front back together I wasnt taking my time and put the wrong bearing in it and when i figured it out it didnt want to come out. I blew it up in the press. Luckily i have extra cases so i had to take a side trail to get another front housing off a spare to get it together. Then on final assembly something was binding when i put the rear output shaft on. After 3 failed attempts i traced it back to the new needle bearing in the under drive idler gear. Finally took it out and used the old bearing instead of the one that came in the rebuild kit and it fit right and no more binding so finally got it all together last night.

so glad you figured out that tcase. had me worried there for a while too i was feeding you bad info.
nah, you know how it goes, sometimes just venting about it helps. the last thing id think it was was a new bearing being out of spec so it was the last thing i checked. the whole time i figured it was something i did wrong. i guess it still was. had i ever done it before id have known that that gear and bearing was supposed to slide in not be coaxed in in the press.

A friend brought his mig welder to weld up the frame reinforcement plates from delta.

then i installed the axle relocation kit from redline land cruisers. swapped in the rebuilt transfer case. re sprayed the bed liner and installed the wheels and tires. i should get a few more good years of beatings in now.
