...so whomever said sh*t rolls down hill... didn't think about when the main line gets plugged up. It can run uphill :frown:

pink pill, lol

Some of my latest milled wood. These are my biggest slabs to date. If I can sell these, I have some twice as big coming out of the next batch.

Man I thought this board would be crawling today with everyone huddled inside!?

Thanks, I'll tell you as soon as it clears customs.

WOW Isaac....that's cool lookin'! Too bad you have to suffer in that heat. If it gets too warm down there, come on home.

Actually I am milling this wood up in the mountains so it is about 75 degrees. Just thinking of coming home makes me shiver. You guys stay warm.

Thanks. We had to cut it in half right where that picture was taken. We used a 48 inch chainsaw on both sides and then cracked it open. It was too heavy to lift up into the mill.

I'm starting to look for a 1999 100 Series to do a build up and have ready for my daughter when she gets her license in 18 months. At this point, I've compiled a starter list of mods that I'd like to make. Here's what I've come up with as a wishlist from Slee:
  • 2.5" Heavy Duty Lift
  • ARB Front Combination Bumper
  • Slee Rear Dual Pivot Bumper
  • Warn Winch
  • Slee Sliders
  • Safari Snorkel
  • Slee Rear Tire Carrier
  • Slee Ladder Carrier
  • Slee Jerry Can Basket
Now, this little list of goodies will cost about $7,700 and is just a start. These just happen to be things that I can add myself with very little help from anyone else. Naturally, I'd be looking to put bigger tires on among other mods that might compliment what I am contemplating. I'm thinking I can acquire a solid stock vehicle for around $10,000. So, let's say for argument's sake when I'm done I've got $20,000 into this 11 year old vehicle with 140,000 - 175,000 miles on it. Have I made a good decision? Can I do something better for my daughter with that kind of investment? I know it would be tough to get my money out of the rig should I ever want to sell it, but I'm not too concerned about that. Anyway, I'm looking for opinions. I'm also interested in the honest to goodness truth about any bad assumptions I'm making in considering this scenario. I guess you could say I want anyone who chooses to respond to be brutally honest! Thanks.

Really? That might be a good option. The reason I am considering a 100 buildup is so I can have some fun with it until my daughter is ready to drive. It also has the seating capacity to handle my whole crew plus a few of their friends. I might even make it my DD until Sydney's licensed. If I go that route, I definitely need the additional seating capacity.

OK!:)
#1 dose she think she wants a L/C? if N you don`t get her something that she likes it is gona cost a lot more $$$in the long run!
trust me on this one seen it toooooo many times with my customers over the years:bang::bang::bang::bang:

#2 at pushing 3 tons they are prone to be a bit top heavy, stopping distance not bad not great the more ya add & taller ya get the #`s increase!

#3 if she isn`t going to :steer: it more than you :steer: yours don`t see the point to put her in a 10 /14 on a good day mpg ORV to go to school, friends & the mall.

:hhmm:unless ya plan to ground her on Friday then you drive it on the weekend so the gas in the tank dosen`t good bad, exercise the lockers so they stay well lubed, flex the suspension ETC ETC ETC:D

IMHO better off with a first time driver in a VOLVO or BMW never had a single customer ever hurt :) if she really wants a sport ute then a runner would be my list

in closing "you asked for it you got it TOYOTA"

Paul

Well, if you seriously want to consider an FJC, Layton has his for sale in BR and it has a SC in it. He sold off most of the goodies but you might contact him. It's a great rig and the same color as Jon's. (I know Jon was just kidding about selling his.....)

That would be 12 years old.:flipoff2:

I'm with Paul on all of the extra weight. With a new driver that could be a little dangerous. I don't know about the 100 series but with an 80 I have to give myself a little extra room between cars just to be safe. I still catch myself saying "oh s***" every now and then when someone pulls out in front of me or stops abruptly. If I would have had a vehicle like this when I first got my license, I would have wrecked it for sure.

I agree. Any lifted vehicle I have had has weird suspension quarks along with squishier tires. This often leads to unpredictable steering and braking.

If anything, I would start her off on a stock rig and let her adjust to each mod individually. That way, she can grow her skills as the rig grows. This will also keep it her interested in it as it keeps looking and being better and better.

I would turn my 1999 LC over to my son if he was about to start driving. He already claims it at 8 years old. By the time he's driving, I may have finally put a lift on it.

Out of curiosity, why are you putting all that stuff on there for a new driver? Is New Iberia that tough to drive around or are you prepping for LSU?

I would think the hundy or 80 better for hauling a lot of people and stuff. I sat in the back of an FJ and didn't like it too much. Of course I was hung over real bad so take that with a grain of salt.
