Browser Freezing while accessing some MUD threads.

I've had trouble accessing some threads with MS XP, Internet Explorer 8 Browser freezing. I can let page load for 10 to 20 min or so and it will load. Switched to Chrome same problem just not as long a wait. Now using Firefox without any problems. This started about three days ago (10/9/13).

:confused:Anyone else having issues navigating MUD, with slow page load or browser freezing?

I haven't had any problems... ever really. Your first problem was using IE, but otherwise I would suggest a system reboot and after that you may want to start reinstalling programs, after that I would check your internet connection, but before I forget (I just never have this issue) check your system for viruses.

ive experienced the same thing using chrome.

debugging via developer tools in my browser shows it hanging when it goes to load advertisements, causing the page to not render properly.

i see the forum is hosted at softlayer. any possibility you guys could front it with CloudFlare to accelerate delivery of the pages?

I'm seeing a hang/crash on https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-c...-core-out.html
It hangs directing to i.skimresources.com which is not one of Mudd's regular ad servers??
Trunk Monkey can load it fine in Chrome & Firefox, so not sure why I'm seeing it consistently on this one thread.

I've tested my internet connection, good speed with low latency.

Yes IE 8 with MS windows XP is getting old, but I like some features. Issues started after IE update, never had problem before in mud going back to 2004 if you count lurking. Not sure why Chrome also hanging at this time, but not as severe. Could be Norton, I've tried scans with Norton, malwarebytes & superantispyware. Did find some issues that were new to my scans that are of concern.

Have not tried reinstall yet, wanted to see who else if anyone is have issues. Woodys on the road and he did report a freeze with chrome in page 3 of: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/777109-best-headlight-bulb-market-today-3.html
For me worst issue is ^^^ this page and second worst is mud home page. e9999 reported using Foxfire without issue so I switched to same with good results, but would like to switch back to IE.

I do suspect ad's & link's hanging up my page load due to some interoperability or compatibility with IE, Chrome and/or Norton scanning them for security issues. The Firefox uses McAfee for its scans, could be clue?

So far the thread I linked is the only Mudd page where this problem appears. All other threads & PMs are normal.

Thanks, I had a product that block all ad’s which was great, in the days of dail-up modems. I guess it was discontinue due to pressure from advertisers.

I'd like to find what is causing this IE problem, maybe I could just change some option or setting any ideas on that?

Why is everyone's solution to change browsers ? I like IE and it works on all the other forums that I visit. I believe its all the banner ads on the pics that overload the browser with the ad.doubleclick and other crap that causes slowdown/crashes.

I've heard that before, what browser are you using?

I see more ads than ANY user of the forum, guests or otherwise...I have not experienced a load issue recently and it's impossible to track a problem I cannot duplicate.

skimresources is one of the dozens of ad networks used on the forum. Ad networks do have occasional botlenecks.

Interesting that not seeing as many ad's (skimword or others) in this thread, why do you think that is?

What do think attracted so many ad's in target thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/777109-best-headlight-bulb-market-today.html ?

Being an automotive site, the keywords will auto target auto-based keywords...strangely, Lighting is a BIG BIG BIG hit right now (you should see my inbox emails...)

Skimwords is supposed to run "optimized" for the number of links...will check with the developer to see if a per page limit can be set.

Thanks Woody, let me know if it can be corrected.

If not, I will start thread over and may be best to delele old. Please if going to delete current (old) thread give me heads-up & time too copy and notify members.

Great stuff, whatever you did. https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/778070-heater-core-out.html opens nicely today for the first time in many days.
Studly work, man. Much appreciated!

Interesting not one highlighted word (skimwords) on these key words in this thread which were taken from freezing thread????????

Flipped a setting that only creates those link highlights on threads that have had no replies in 24+ hours...if that cured the issue, then I need to contact the developer and let them know there is an issue to be addressed.

 So that's why highlighted links off here, but on in (Note: has been no reply's in 48hr's): https://forum.ih8mud.com/100-series-cruisers/777109-best-headlight-bulb-market-today.html at this time?

If I do a test reply in the frozen thread will highlights go away?

Couple of foot notes:
1) No problem when using Firefox and can see highlighted words.
2) Tried from different location with very wide band comcast commercial internet connection with very robust routers, no better when using IE or Chrome.

Used firefox to post reply in frozen thread and now IE works great.
